Maturity is realizing that your actions set an example for others. Any behaviors you have that aren’t sustainable on a large scale should be challenged/changed.
I find one of life’s beautiful ironies to be that the majority of people try to force themselves to choose whether they believe in God, when by default this is the greatest mystery of the universe.
People often default to assuming the best or worst about strangers. I wish we could move beyond assumptions and simply talk to each other more. Make the effort to understand different perspectives. Don’t let ignorance become a comfort zone or a source of false confidence.
Three things shape who we are: genetics, experiences, and beliefs. Everything else stems from these.
We have 0% control over our genetics, about 50% control over our experiences, and 100% control over our beliefs.
This realization is both humbling and empowering.
There are infinite different ways to think about a situation. Meaning, if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or anxious, you're probably thinking from a sub-optimal perspective and can't "see" a way to get yourself out.
Even worse, most people have a worldview so deeply conditioned into their minds from parents, schools, mainstream news, social media, and the rest that they can't even fathom changing their mind.
You become powerful when you realize that you're probably wrong about almost everything, and that most of your problems can be solved with a simple change in how you view the situation.
Step 5: Remind - yourself to be patient. Things take time. God’s plan, if there is one, is too big for us to see. Sometimes all we can do is hang on, just NEVER give up. Chop it, change it and try it again.
Step 4: Revise - Edit the plan. If necessary, what adaptions or adjustments should you make to your goals? Infinite goals + 0 expectations = an unstoppable human.
Step 3: Reset - your mind on your most valued principles. Mine are Balance, Humility, the Golden Rule, and Love. I can’t go into each right now but I do want to clarify that to me, the Golden Rule requires perspective to actually work. This fact is lost on many people.
Step 2: Reboot - Go absolutely blank. I like to imagine my brain as a city seen from the night sky, full of lights. Then the power grid just shut off. If any thoughts (or lights) pop up, I turn them off until there is nothing but silence. Nothing but the sound of your breath.
Step 1: Review - Review your recent behaviors. This is the same as reflecting on your actions. Think about how you have behaved in the last day, or however long, and if you’re happy with those actions. What can you improve on?
