Here’s another update on me. I went to my cardiologist appointment. It was a frustrating experience. He wouldn’t listen to me at all. He wanted me to do a stress test and had no interest in anything other than me just silently obeying his commands.

He refused to consider a CIMT, stating that I need a stress test. I mentioned that the data shows that stress tests have about a 25% rate of false positives and false negatives. He said, “I don’t know who you got that information from but I’m a board certified cardiologist and I say they are over 90% effective.” That was the moment I knew I wouldn’t be back to him. He made that number up on the spot.

I went on to ask about the possibility of having both a stress test and a CIMT to measure soft plaque. While he was arguing that I don’t need a CIMT, I saw him google it to see what it is. He said, “why would you want to do that?”and referred to it as an invasive test. I said it’s ultrasound based. He said you can take the stress test or not but your arteries will continue to close up until we do something. He would have sent me for a heart cath and stint if there was any hint of a problem on the stress test.

Here’s the thing. I’m not afraid of the stress test. It will be no different than the stair climber I use at the gym, except I’d be hooked up to leads. But it would be an $800 waste and I still need a CIMT or something that differentiates between soft plaque and hardened, stabilized plaque.

I’m taking my health into my own hands and I am 100% confident I’ll be better off for it. Our healthcare system is broken.
