Fellow Nigerians
Today, we celebrate democracy and the enduring Nigerian spirit. For 27 unbroken years, since May 29, 1999, Nigerians have chosen their leaders through the ballot, witnessed peaceful transitions of power, and resolved disagreements in courtrooms and legislative chambers—not through violence. We have experienced the longest stretch of civilian rule in our history. Our democracy is not perfect, but it is ours, and we must continue to defend and strengthen it.
STATE POLICE CONSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK NEAR COMPLETION- PRESIDENCY
Significant progress has been made towards establishing state police, with a constitutional amendment expected soon, following months of consultations among the Executive, the National Assembly and security authorities.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing State House Correspondents after a consultative meeting on state police convened by the Presidency, held at the State House, Abuja.
Gbajabiamila said deliberations on the proposed state police framework began several months ago following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the process has gained considerable traction.
He explained that establishing state police requires careful consideration of constitutional and legal issues and cannot be implemented hastily.
"We started deliberations in the last three or four months on how to go about the establishment of state police as directed by Mr President.
"Establishing state police is not something that you do with the snap of the fingers. There is a lot involved in terms of constitution and legalities, and thank God we have now gained a lot of traction.
“Hopefully, the amendment will come shortly, and the details of the amendment will come after that," Gbajabiamila added.
According to him, discussions have now advanced to the point of considering the necessary constitutional amendments, with the enabling legislation to follow afterwards.
"Right now, what we are looking at is the constitutional amendment itself, and then the enabling law would follow thereafter. That is what we have been deliberating on in the last couple of hours," he added.
The Chief of Staff highlighted broad national support for the initiative, emphasising that the debate is no longer about whether state police should be establishedbut about creating the appropriate legal and institutional framework for its operation.
He said President Tinubu, who has consistently advocated for state police as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture, would receive a comprehensive report on the meeting's outcome.
The meeting is part of a series of consultations convened by the Federal Government to develop a workable framework for the establishment of state police, an initiative aimed at strengthening internal security, improving local intelligence gathering and enhancing the capacity of sub-national governments to address emerging security challenges across the country.
President Tinubu has maintained in the last few months that state police is a necessary response to Nigeria's evolving security challenges, advocating that a decentralised policing structure would strengthen grassroots security, enhance intelligence gathering and improve the protection of lives and property across the country.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, among other senior government officials.

Today’s Jumu’ah khutbah was about shyness (haya), and the Imam really did justice to the topic.
Here's what I can remember from the khutbah:
He explained that shyness is not weakness as people often think. Rather, it is from the branches of Iman. A person with true Iman carries a sense of restraint, while the absence of haya is a sign that something is lacking in one’s faith.
He mentioned the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ: “If you feel no shame, then do as you wish.” The meaning is not encouragement, but a warning. Once a person loses shyness, there is nothing left to hold them back from any action.
The Imam then explained some of the forms of shyness:
1. There is shyness before people, where a person avoids sin because they do not want to be seen.
2. But higher than that is shyness before Allah. This is when a person is alone, with no one watching, yet still refrains from disobedience because they know Allah sees them. This is the true sign of taqwa.
He also mentioned that a sign of weakness in Iman is when a person commits sins in private, then comes out presenting themselves as righteous. This shows a lack of real haya, because true shyness would have prevented the sin in the first place, not just hidden it from people. He then made reference to the hadith in Bukhāri:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“All of my Ummah will be forgiven except those who publicize their sins. Among that is a person who commits a sin at night, and Allah had concealed it for him, then he comes in the morning and says: ‘O so-and-so, I did such-and-such last night,’ while his Lord had concealed it for him, but he removes Allah’s covering from himself.”
This concept of shyness does not only apply in physical spaces. Even online; especially social media, the same reality exists.
Many people post whatever they want, say whatever they want, and cross limits without any sense of accountability. It is as if being unseen by people removes all restraint, while forgetting that Allah still sees everything. You even hear statements like “to survive, you have to be shameless.”
The khutbah made it clear that this mindset is dangerous. What actually protects a person is haya, especially shyness before Allah. That is what keeps a person grounded, even when no one else is watching.
In the end, the highest form of shyness is not about people at all. It is about Allah. It is about having that awareness in private, in quiet moments, and choosing obedience over sin even when you could easily get away with it.

To my wonderful SG family and everyone across Lagos Island II who stood firmly with us throughout this journey, I say thank you.
Your sacrifice, loyalty, encouragement, prayers, and unwavering belief in our shared vision will never be forgotten. What we built together was not artificial, transactional, or driven by convenience. It was organic, people-driven, and founded on a genuine desire for purposeful representation and meaningful service.
I am particularly humbled by the passion shown by young people, women, community leaders, party faithful, professionals, artisans, and residents who believe that our generation must continue to contribute actively to governance and grassroots development. The energy, acceptance, and support we received across the constituency clearly demonstrated that our politics can still be inspired by conviction, competence, and sincerity of purpose.
I also remain profoundly grateful to our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT , whose political philosophy and leadership continue to shape many of us, and to our Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu, for his consistent mentorship, guidance, and wise counsel. Leadership teaches restraint, discipline, loyalty, and the importance of protecting institutions beyond personal ambitions.
Democracy, especially within party structures, demands maturity. Primaries will produce winners and others who must step aside for the collective interest of the party and the stability of the system. Today, one person emerges; tomorrow, another may carry the torch. But beyond contests and positions, what truly matters is remaining committed to the people and to the ideals that brought us into public service in the first place.
For me, politics has never been merely about occupying office. Having been privileged to excel in other professional and public service endeavors, I see leadership and political participation as a higher responsibility; a vehicle for solving problems, uplifting communities, inspiring young people, and creating lasting impact where it matters most. Public service remains a calling rooted in sacrifice, vision, and genuine concern for humanity.
I therefore urge every supporter to remain hopeful, steadfast, and proud of what we have collectively achieved. This moment does not diminish the strength of our movement, the relationships we have built, or the future that lies ahead. If anything, it has further revealed the power of unity, grassroots connection, and shared purpose.
Our journey is far from over. The future remains bright, and together, we will continue to serve, contribute, and build a Lagos Island II and a Lagos State that generations after us will be proud of.
Thank you for believing.

STATEHOUSE STATEMENT
PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU'S STATEMENT ON THE COMMENCEMENT OF APC PRIMARIES NATIONWIDE
Fellow party men and women, I am pleased to witness this historic moment in the annals of our party. The party we formed just like yesterday is gearing up for its fourth election cycle. It is a source of pride for me, and I believe for all our distinguished leaders and teeming members.
We founded the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the firm principles of progressive politics, consensus democracy, and personal devotion and sacrifice. This principle of selflessness and devotion has seen us go through each election cycle and come out firmer together. We must consolidate on it as we go into the primaries tomorrow.
The primary elections, kicking off with those for House of Representatives aspirants tomorrow and culminating in the presidential primaries on May 25, 2026, are not mere exercises to produce our standard bearers. They are a referendum on our unity, resilience and strength as a party. They present an opportunity to renew the bond and ideals that we share.
I am aware that, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act (2026) and our party's constitution, leaders at various levels have initiated conversations to produce consensus candidates. It is a commendable option that would help in reducing rancour and bad blood among party members. I note the impressive progress made in this regard and encourage fellow party members to make the most of this window to ensure a seamless process and a more unified party.
Election is an essential ingredient of democracy. Where consensus fails, I urge us all to go into the primaries as brothers and sisters. All participants in the primaries, as contestants or voters, must keep the peace and be ready to play as sportsmen and women in the overall interest of the party and our country. We cannot afford rancorous conduct or the debasement of our democracy and party unity. In every contest, there will be a winner and a loser. I urge the winners not to gloat in victory and the losers to show sportsmanship by taking things in their stride and preparing for another time. The ultimate winners are those who don't choose to wreck the boat but rather work to prepare for another round. Our opponents are waiting for us to be against each other; we should disappoint them.
Winners and party leaders at all levels should reach out to those who did not succeed with olive branches. We should not play the politics of old; the do-or-die politics that we have put behind us. Politics should never be a zero-sum game. Any candidate that wins does so for all of us as a party. Those who lost out have the opportunity to appeal to the party's committees set up for redress.
To the party leadership, our governors, and other leaders, I urge you to be fair and just. You must rise above sentiment to offer all aspirants a level playing field that guarantees participation without let or hindrance. While only one person will win for every seat contested, we should give eventual losers the satisfaction of a fair contest.
The inclusion of women and youth is dear to my heart. I appeal to voters in the primaries and leaders at all levels to give special consideration to our women and youth in the contest. We cannot afford to relegate the two significant demographics of our population.
Lastly, the Police and other security agencies must remain professional and avoid acting as interlopers during this exercise. Your duties strictly centre on ensuring peaceful exercise. Nothing more.
I wish all our aspirants and party members good luck and a successful outing. I look forward to working with the victorious aspirants for the success of our great party in the general election.

Today marked a defining moment in Alimosho as leaders and party faithful (the entire political structure) came together in unity to endorse and present consensus candidates for the House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly. With the presence of party leaders, the message was unmistakable — Alimosho remains united, formidable, and ever ready to lead.
Today, I successfully went through a rigorous screening process as part of the journey towards contesting for the position of Member, House of Representatives, representing Daura, Sandamu and Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.
I remain grateful to Almighty Allah, my family, friends and supporters for their encouragement and prayers. I look forward to continuing this journey with humility, dedication and commitment to serving our people.

PRESS STATEMENT
RESUMPTION OF NATIONWIDE CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) FOR FINAL PHASE
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, 11th May 2026.
It may be recalled that the second phase of the exercise was suspended on 17th April 2026 to allow the Commission clean up the register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants.
The third phase of the CVR, which begins on Monday, 11th May 2026, will end on Friday, 10th July 2026. During this period, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases, should seize this opportunity to do so.
Similarly, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata, are advised to access the Commission’s dedicated online portal at https://t.co/TXA4XP2fCk or visit INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.
In continuation of the process, the Commission will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23rd July to Wednesday, 29th July 2026. This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility.
The Commission reassures Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise. We once again appeal to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and to play their part in strengthening the foundation of our electoral process.
