Every time I see Nathaniel Bassey publicly honor and celebrate his wife, something shifts inside me.
It may look small to some people — a post, a compliment, a public acknowledgment — but to me, it speaks volumes. In a generation where secrecy is normalized, side relationships are glorified, and loyalty is mocked, seeing a man boldly love his wife out loud is powerful.
And deep in my heart, I always whisper, “God, this is the kind of man I want to be.”
I want to be bold enough to say, without fear or shame, I do not have a side chick. Bold enough to call my wife my best friend. Bold enough to celebrate her publicly and privately. Bold enough not to feel threatened when she shines. Bold enough to trust her with the money I make. Bold enough to love her intentionally, sacrificially, and consistently.
Because real masculinity is not proven by how many women admire you. It is proven by how well you protect, honor, and cherish the one God gives you.
We live in times where marriage is constantly attacked. Social media is full of divorce stories, betrayal scandals, “men are trash” narratives, and fear-filled opinions about relationships. If you are not careful, you can begin to believe that good marriages no longer exist.
But I refuse to feed on that negativity.
I have seen good marriages. I have seen peaceful homes. I have seen husbands who are present, responsible, faithful, and joyful. I have seen wives who are supportive, loving, wise, and strong.
Healthy marriages are real. Godly homes still exist. Faithfulness is not outdated.
And I am positioning myself intentionally — even before marriage — to succeed as a husband and a father.
Because a good marriage does not start on the wedding day. It starts in singleness. It starts in discipline. It starts in character. It starts in how you treat women now. It starts in how you manage money now. It starts in how you control your appetites now. It starts in your prayer life now.
If I cannot be faithful in private, I will not suddenly become faithful in marriage. If I cannot control my desires now, a ring will not magically fix me. If I cannot lead myself, I cannot lead a family.
So my prayer is simple but deep:
“God, help me become the kind of man who can sustain a peaceful marriage.”
Not just a wedding. Not just pictures. Not just captions. But peace. Security. Laughter in the house. Safety for my wife. Emotional covering. Spiritual leadership. Financial responsibility. Gentleness. Strength under control.
I close my ears to voices that normalize cheating. I close my ears to men who joke about disrespecting their wives. I close my ears to bitterness disguised as wisdom. I close my ears to fear-based marriage narratives.
Because what you constantly hear eventually shapes what you expect. And what you expect eventually shapes what you build.
I expect peace. I expect loyalty. I expect friendship in marriage. I expect joy. I expect partnership. I expect growth. I expect a home where God is honored.
And I am not just praying for it. I am preparing for it.
One day, I want my children to look at my marriage and feel secure. I want my wife to feel safe with me — emotionally, spiritually, and financially. I want her to know that she does not compete with other women for my attention. I want her to know she is celebrated, not tolerated. I want her to know she married a man, not a boy hiding behind ego.
This is not weakness. This is strength. This is maturity. This is intentional living.
And just like you, my prayer is:
“Lord, help me build a good and peaceful marriage. Help me not fail as a husband. Help me love deeply. Help me lead wisely. Help me remain faithful. Help me be bold in righteousness.”
Good marriages exist. Healthy love exists. God-ordained partnership exists.
And for those who believe and prepare, it will exist in your life too.
