New York City has a population of 8 million people and an urban forest of more than 7 million trees. Our city and its trees need each other to survive and thrive in a climate-changing world.

I know I say this all the time.
You're tired of it. Me too!
But fundamental misconceptions about food & climate get repeated ALL THE TIME.
If you want to eat for the planet, eat LESS BEEF and MORE LENTILS.
Thanks for listening.

Academia is like sports. Worse, it’s conceptualized & practiced as some sort of war or imperialist projects (remember “The Imperial University”?)

@tsd1888 As a New Yorker, I find his existence infuriating . . . so much media coverage of this guy. Like, you know other people are running, right? I want to hear more about all the WoC on the ballot and less about this flash-in-the-pan dude.
Please take some time to absorb and share this extraordinary talk and conversation with landscape architect Kofi Boone (@KBbop) on the lessons and legacies of Black landscape history, experience, and practice. It will change how you see the environment.

Preparing for the most exciting presentation of my career thus far: "How Plants Help Us." To be presented, at my child's request, to the kindergarten class tomorrow.
Please read this statement centering the demands of MOVE and the Africa family and the resources at the end of the statement. And watch the MOVE press conference linked in the statement. Thank you @ABA_AAA@SbaArch and @BlackinBioAnth for writing this. #Anthrotwitter
If there was one thing I wish I could get every American to understand it's this map. Being "closer to nature" doesn't make you greener. Cities are greener because people ditch cars & live in smaller spaces. Every apartment not built in a city pushes more people out into the red.
@tsd1888 "Jell-o Salad" and derivations there-of, as in, "you're nuttier than a Jell-o Salad," or "Jell-o Salad has more of a backbone than you," etc.
(FYI I personally love Jell-o Salad and this would cut me to the bone)
@babybelladonna2 Had a baby and spiteful refusal to “be a statistic” was pretty much the only thing that kept me going. Nb. deciding to quit would have been a completely valid option b/c it should not be on parents to persist in a toxic system.
Did fieldwork, as in actually being in a park talking to people, for the first time in over a year. Talking to NYers about the glory of tulips, relativeness of 'fresh air' and 'quiet', and our unique relationship to rats was, as always, THE BEST.

This is good, but personally I recommend reminding everyone about the cycles of living and killing and dying and rotting that we are all (as beings in ecologies) implicated in with a rousing "someone's got to die!" Really sidetracks the conversation for awhile.
Loved this @earthinstitute brainstorm: Postdocs & two climate/sustainability leaders explore how to overcome barriers in dominant academic models hindering young scientists pursuing tough sustainability goals. Here @megmaurer2 notes community-based work takes time...
