Last night Richmond’s administration announced they’ll only be opening up 60 beds for their cold weather shelter this winter. That’s a huge decrease from the 150 they promised the homeless.
There are almost 500 homeless people in the city and temperatures have been plummeting.

🚨🚨 URGENT NEWS: The deadline to open Richmond's winter weather shelter is only two weeks away, but council has yet to even choose a location or a provider. A subcommittee will discuss proposals today at 2pm, but even if they choose one, council can't approve it until Nov. 14.
Richmond is currently facing a homelessness crisis. According to the city’s quarterly count of unhoused people, there were 447 people experiencing homelessness in Richmond during July, including 204 who were living without shelter. Experts say their numbers are expected to rise.
