i finished Too Much last night and it's easily one my favorite new programs of the streaming era: a warm, friendly, optimistic and real portrayal of the miracle of romance. it's all about how neurotic young people made socially insane by modernity can fill the gaps in one another's souls with erotic love and passion. Megan Stalter is wildly charming and cute and also capable of total repugnancy -- watching her transform, falter and actualize as a responsible woman is inspiring. her wardrobe is astonishing, like you will not believe what this girl puts on. not to mention Will Sharpe is HOT without being a ridiculous HBO sex god, exactly the kind of approachable but beautiful male representation television needs. while Girls is a very outward show with a panoramic and critical eye for the world of women, Too Much is very inward, closer to Tiny Furniture, and brought me to real tears many times watching realistic and familiar people hurting each other and toiling to be good to each other. the culture doesn't believe in sweeping romance, but Lena Dunham does and she's made something wonderful here. i hope they make one hundred more seasons to gobble up
