AN OPEN LETTER TO THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF POWER, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA @BayoAdelabu
Dear Honourable Minister,
Good evening sir.
I hope this letter meets you in a place where there is electricity, because here in Ajah, Lagos, we only experience electricity the way people experience solar eclipses. Rare, surprising, and worth announcing to the neighbors (down nepa).
Sir, we are writing to report something very serious, the activities of electricity in our area are quietly sabotaging your future. Seems Ekedc staffs here in Ajah already swear with their lives that they will rather die than watch you become a Governor in the nearest future.
Sir, You promised Band A 22 hours of electricity supply, in our area, Band A seems to mean “2 hours… if luck smiles on you.” And our brothers and sisters in Band B, who were promised 18 hours of electricity, are currently enjoying something closer to 30 minutes of motivational electricity, just enough time to charge one phone to 17% before darkness returns.
At this point, generators have become the unofficial national anthem. You hear them everywhere “gbrrrrrrr… gbrrrrrr…” from morning till night.
Sir, we fear that if this continues, people might start believing that the electricity companies are running a secret experiment to see how long Nigerians can survive using only generators, power banks, and hope.
We respectfully plead with you to please check what is happening between the promises made in Abuja and the reality we experience in Ajah. Because if the situation continues like this, the only thing Nigerians will have is 22 hours of everyday darkness and generator noise.
Honourable Minister, we believe Nigeria deserves better. Stable electricity should not feel like winning a national lottery.
Please help us ensure that when Nigerians hear “Band A – 22 hours” and “Band B – 18 hours,” it becomes a reality rather than a comedy show.
We look forward to the day when electricity stays long enough for us to forget where we kept our candles.
Yours faithfully,Concerned Residents of Ajah.
Who now greet electricity like a visiting relative.
