Thrilled to see our analysis providing an updated overview of #SalmonellaTyphi genetic diversity and #AMR published in @eLife today, featuring 13,000 genomes from 110 countries and 195 international collaborators from the Global Typhoid Genomics Consortium @TyphiNET 🌍🧫🧬
Antibiotic-resistant typhoid infections are a growing global health problem, made worse now by emerging carbapenem resistance.

Momentous day for public health!
Today @WHO Member States adopted the Pandemic Accord. It’s a clear demonstration that we’ve learned from the devastation of COVID-19 and that with global solidarity we can ensure a safer and healthier future for all.

📰 New publication! Read up on the @TyphiNET data visualisation dashboard in @GenomeMedicine.
The dashboard provides an interactive platform for accessing genome-derived data on pathogen variant frequencies to inform #typhoid control and intervention strategies. #TakeOnTyphoid

Today, I’m proud to share that over the next 20 years, the @gatesfoundation will commit $200 billion to accelerate progress in global health and development—and on December 31, 2045, the foundation will complete its work.
Despite the reduction of global resources from governments and the daunting challenges ahead, we know that progress is possible, especially if we can support the people and ideas that can change the world. We've seen many examples in the past 25 years. Global child mortality has dropped by half. Hundreds of millions of people have risen out of poverty and into better lives. This progress can’t stop now. And we believe the needs and opportunities of this moment require nothing less of us than every resource we have.
As @BillGates said, we’ll focus our efforts on where we can make the biggest difference. We could live to see a world where no mother or child dies of preventable causes. Where deadly diseases like polio, malaria, and tuberculosis are controlled or even eradicated. Where every person has a path to prosperity, no matter where they were born.

@msmicrobiocode won the Staff Prize for her work revealing that most AMR typhoid infections in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Malawi are driven by ongoing local transmission of existing resistant strains—not new variants.
📣 🎉 Congratulations to @gia_pangga and @msmicrobiocode on winning our 2025 Publication Prize at @LSHTM 🏆
