@MsMac321 A3: It has made it easier to provide timely and actionable feedback to students in a variety of formats. Students can interact with my feedback and make adjustments much more efficiently, as well. #edu255chat
Thanks @RoweRikW & @KatieBudrow for a great chat! I’ve been on hiatus since having my kids, but it’s fun to get back in the game and learn from you all! #sblchat
Where to begin SO MUCH research that fewer levels increase accuracy and reliability. Starch & Elliot paved the way in 1912 and a replica of their study by Brimi in 2011 are my favs to show why. @tguskey also has good articles on this. #sblchat
A5 I love to paraphrase @TomSchimmer that if we want Ss to be responsible we must TEACH responsibility. Grading is not teaching. I’m a proponent of reporting and MTSS systems for both academics and work habits if we truly believe in teaching responsibility. #sblchat
A4 If Ss need grades to “learn,” how come they spend hours on YouTube and TikTok learning new things without grades? We can’t make all Ss love our content, but we can make learning purposeful and engaging. #sblchat
Agreed. I had MANY assignments for feedback only and did not have a problem with work completion (other than a select few who would have struggled even if it was graded). Especially when Ss see value in the feedback & can use for later success. #sblchat
A3: I did not grade any formative assignments in my high school ELA classes last year and students did them and received ELA credits. They used the feedback to grow and practice. I saw it happen. #sblchat
It’s up to us to create a culture of learning over earning. Ss value what we talk about; language matters. And we hold Ss accountable for other behaviors and work habits without grades, so we can do the same for assignment completion. #sblchat
I love listening to @TomSchimmerPod while walking these cuties around town. If you’re looking for an outstanding educational podcast with world renowned guests & applicable takeaways, I highly recommend it!! (While you’re at it, check out episode 38. 😉)
