As someone heavily involved in society life it’s very difficult to see so many negative comments about college societies. I have a first hand experience and also know so many people who put in hours upon hours of time and effort to create, host and organize events to welcome(1/5)
Societies are resources that allow people to find and express themselves, to help them grow as a person, build upon their existing talents, learn new skills, and to meet people with whom they have something in common. (4/5)

So often the young people I work with in camhs have told me that they don’t always trust Camhs as they have received unhelpful advise in the past such as “have a cup of tea and a bubble bath” and I think as mh professionals we have to be careful with “self-care” discourse
My daughter was back to college today. She sat in her room and watched her lectures on a computer screen. This is not the college experience she (or I) imagined. Young people have made huge sacrifices. Rather than constantly criticised, they should be commended for their efforts
