An appeal will be automatic due to the nature of the sentencing. Brown’s attorneys are withdrawing and new appellate lawyers will take over. They are with the Equal Justice Initiative who specializes in death penalty cases.
I am sitting in on LaJeromeny Brown’s sentencing hearing. He was convicted of capital murder. This was in connection to killing an HPD STAC Agent. He was convicted with a non-unanimous jury. @waff48
@waff48 DA Anderson says some people believe all officers should have been charges and some believe none should be. He says only the grand jury members are qualified to make the decision because they have seen the evidence. @waff
We are live at a press conference with the Morgan County DA. He says a diverse grand jury was put together to look into the officers in connection with the Steve Perkins case. @waff
@waff48 Four officers were on the scene and one fired the shot. So the grand jury unanimously elected to indict the shooter, Officer Mac Bailey Marquette, with murder. The DA agrees completely. @waff
Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling just released that the city will fire three officers and suspend one in connection with the death of Steve Perkins.
He was shot and killed in his front yard by officers on September 29. His family's supporters have been demanding answers ever since.
Palestine TV journalist Mohammad Abu Hattab was killed with his family in an Israeli airstrike. His colleague Salman Al-Bashir removes his protective gear marked PRESS on air saying: “We can’t take it anymore, we are exhausted. We are victims. The only difference between us is the time of death. We are killed one after another. And no one cares about the catastrophe or the crime that we endure in Gaza. No protection for anyone or anything. This gear and helmet do not protect any journalist, they are just empty slogans. We are victims, live on air. We are victims awaiting our turn to be killed. Mohammad was here half an hour ago (reporting). Now he lies dead with his family in this same hospital.”
Less than 24 hrs after #Israeli strikes killed his wife, son Mahmoud (16), daughter Sham (7) & grandchild Adam (18m), the voice of #Gaza, @WaelDahdouh is back in front of the camera to report the ongoing Israeli offensive on the besieged enclave.
This is his response to them.
