While working on my reflection, I saw how much this class taught me as far as concise writing & working with different software. I really appreciate the intro to new tools as it has opened the door to learning more about communicating digitally. Thanks Professor Stover! #ENGL350
In today's class we wrote new definitions of DH & compared them to the initial definitions we wrote at the beginning of the semester. I found that my current definition was a lot more clear and concise as my understanding of DH deepened over the course of the semester. #Engl350
and genders that I have never thought of before. DH projects that promote new ways of thinking can be very influential and impactful on society. #Engl350
I thought the DH project regarding Rate My Professor language was one of the most interesting DH projects we have looked at so far because of how much of an effect it can have upon users' way of thinking regarding gendered language. It drew connections between words
During my meeting, Dr. Stover and I discussed using a different mapping/ timeline software, Leaflet, in order to achieve my project goals. I am working on rewriting my process & methods section now to incorporate this change. #Engl350
@KeeseeSydne Same here! Once I was able to get all of my ideas out in the project description, I was able to pull the major details and place them into the abstract. Will definitely be using this technique in the future.
Currently working on taking out information that isn’t necessarily needed in my final draft. Proof reading helped me recognize some of my description paragraphs were repetitive and longer than they needed to be - cutting these down has helped me lower the word count! #CNUEngl350
I reviewed @EmmaFlye 's project for today's peer review and it turns out we have very similar topics, each regarding the Nazi regime and the Holocaust. Her project focused on the burning of books and the issue of
censorship which she plans to visualize through an interactive timeline. I really like how she connected the issue of a past event (censorship) to its current presence in today's society. As a project that concerns the past as well as the present, I think she will do a great
@Maggie_F18 I ran into this problem as well due to the amount of information surrounding my historical topic. Once I got it all out, I was able to take a step back and analyze which information was most useful to my target audience in terms of providing a preview of my project.
regards to the project's creation. Instead, I tried to provide necessary information while also getting to the point of the project's importance and overall significance. #CNUEngl350
In writing my abstract I found it hard to not go in to too much detail regarding the historical aspect of my project. Because this information is already discussed in depth within my proposal, I wanted to make sure I kept it brief and only stuck to the most important facts in
additional information will pop out and include a list of each additional sub-camp. This way, I can include all camps within the project without having to locate and place over 1,000 on the map. #CnuEngl350
While writing the first draft for my grant proposal, I’ve learned a lot more about the historical aspect of my topic than I had initially anticipated. For example, there were over 1,000 Nazi-run concentration camps throughout WWII. Only ever hearing about certain, larger
camps, I had rather expected the number of camps to be a few dozen. This information has changed my game plan as far as my interactive map goes as I now plan to only include the main camps on the interactive map. Upon clicking on each main camp icon, a drop down screen with
@Maggie_F18 Although I missed the speaker on Monday, this is an excellent point that I will definitely remember while writing. Understanding & being able to accurately portray the reasoning & importance behind your project topic is the key to creating a successful proposal!
not know and learned in class today. I found the list of verbs provided on the slides to be super helpful as I tend to draw blanks while writing- I will definitely be coming back to this chart! The resume discussion was super helpful & I enjoyed all of the tips!#CnuEngl350
It was a really helpful refresher going over resume specifics in class today, especially as a senior! Over the past several years I have created a number of resumes for internships and summer jobs. Even after writing so many resumes, there were still some specifics that I did
