If you are among the readers of Samir Amin, Claude Ake, Sam Moyo, Walter Rodney, and Prabhat Patnaik, then you must read this book. Unfortunately, it has yet to be translated into English.

Today I finished reading it, and I believe that despite more than forty years having passed since its publication, it remains highly relevant to our present context. I therefore strongly recommend it, as it represents an early attempt to formulate an alternative development project that challenges the widely held claim in the Global South that there is no alternative to economic reform policies based on reliance on the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other international lending institutions.

The authors of this work belong to an intellectual tradition that does not view economics as a purely technical and highly complex academic discipline, but rather as a social science that can be presented in a clear and systematic way to a broad readership. I have always struggled with economic writing due to its complexity, but this book changed that. It addresses issues directly tied to sovereignty, development, food security, and social justice from a class perspective, as well as national independence—concerns that should be grounded in people’s essential social and material needs.
