USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
I need to reiterate: 2025 was the best Giants offense in a decade by almost every metric with Lil Jordan running routes, no Nabers, etc.
Why? The OL was the best it had been since 2015.
Give a QB an OL and he can 1. Work progressions; find open players 2. Have a multiple offense that defenses have to respect the run and can’t guess pass.
Give him a million flashy fun WRs and a broken OL and you’ll just see a repeat of the late Eli Manning years
Another good thing about Francis Mauigoa is that we don't have to spend the summer entertaining Daniel Faalele & Evan Neal actually playing for the Giants on purpose.
.@psufootball @alaivavevga IOANE is my favorite player to study in this draft and I think he improves any team he goes to...Easily a top 10 player in this draft. #BaldysBreakdowns
John Harbaugh replaced Wan’Dale Robinson with Isaiah Likely, Darnell Mooney, and Calvin Austin, at likely a FRACTION of the guarantees and two of them being one year upside deals.
We haven’t witnessed competency at this level in a decade lol
First off, John Harbaugh deal will get finalized soon. But as they sort through organizational and operational issues, something to keep in mind.
Change is difficult but spoke with former players and coaches who were with Ravens and #Giants. To a man they suggested the Ravens operation was running at a different level. Everything from analytics, training, video, medical, personnel. Baltimore is known to spare no expense. Huge staffs, top-notch facilities. One of the best run organizations top to bottom in NFL.
Several that know Harbaugh well suggested he would want major changes to the way the Giants organization operates. That appears to be taking shape right from the jump.
Past is prologue with the Giants. A former member of the coaching staff told me the following quote four years ago. We see it playing out again:
“Their solution forever has been hire a new coach, and he’ll solve all the ills, but they didn’t change anything else. They didn’t change their personnel department; they didn’t change how they do things; they didn’t change any of that stuff. If you want to make a real organizational change, you’ve got to change everybody. You’ve got to change the people who are in charge of the personnel. You’ve got to get new ideas in there.”
