Halo Effect Bias 😇
The halo effect is a bias that claims that positive impressions of people, and products in one area positively influence our feelings in another area. If someone is successful or fails in one area, this can also unfairly colour our expectations of them.
How to stay ahead? 🚶
Be wary of painting an all-rosy picture of someone that seems attractive before you gain information about the person.
If possible try to validate your assumptions. Take time to form firm opinions about others. Rely on data in case of products.
Anchoring Bias
Anchoring bias is a cognitive bias that causes us to rely too heavily on the first piece of information we are given about a topic. We interpret newer information from the reference point of our anchor, instead of seeing it objectively.
How to stay ahead?
The first step is to recognise that anchoring bias exists and affects all of us.
Don't rely on a single source of information.
Proper assessment and valuation of events and situations can weaken this effect.
Curse of knowledge
A bias that occurs when an individual, communicating with others, assume that listeners have the background to understand.
Do- Try to get an idea of the perspective and understanding of the listener. Provide context, start from the basics and avoid assuming.
