@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille One more thing because it's important! Apartheids effects will remain for a long time, as it was not an event it was a period. Other countries that have resolved to improve racial economic equity before us have failed in longer time periods including, "Western Governments"
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille That being said though the current strategy and it's implementation is IMHO way of the mark, which I would attribute to many factors including the governing parties policies and lack of any coherent alternative that balances historical access to education and present needs!!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille There are valid reasons for the drop in the requirement for university admission that is linked to a concept of universal accessibility to tertiary education throughout the world. Especially in the case of SA where access to this was limited and segregated on the basis of race.
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille Also resistance leaders in South Africa during apartheid were actually hunted, killed and imprisoned before they were able to make any sort of difference. That was the purpose of "Security Branch" in SA at the time, hence the extended status quo the time
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille Another example is the Bolshevik Revolution, and what dare I say precipitated these events that still effect us to today? Access to education and gross inequality. The need for a society to free themselves!!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille Considering that the above occurred in almost every major European country in the centuries leading up to World War 2, by using your logic every European aristocratic government were incompetent which was the case. Until the French Revolution that is!!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille What I am saying is that a society, was kept away from education (fact), individuals in power from that society were proxies(fact). This same method of control has been in use for centuries throughout the world, including Europe in medieval times!
@Balstrome@DeonDuP34512278@IamEriOluwa@helenzille And that is exactly what happened. The South African population rose up against oppressors, after they where educated. A defined scientific correlation between the emergence of "Black Consciousness" and the downfall of apartheid. That's why Biko was killed.
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille This in turn created a feedback loop in that control was still present and development of these African economies were one again controlled to maintain economic power. As they say the spice must flow!!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille It is complex and not just one thing but a major component was the directed investment in Europe at the expense of Africa due to the threat of communism from the east.
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille Existing Sub Saharan, North African and Asian countries where used for their resources by colonial parties to rebuild their economies and infrastructure after it's relative destruction and then forced into subsequent Aid Agreements that mandated governance of those countries.
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille These Homelands were predominantly landlocked, if resources were to be accessed it had to be through transport networks developed by the Apartheid government, which was controlled to prevent rampant growth and development of said homelands to protect the security of apartheid SA
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille The leaders came after they educated themselves and even then they were brutally oppressed. Violence was then chosen and guess what, SA alongwith Cuba, Angola and Namibia defeated SA apartheid forces which led to the independence of Namibia and the eventual demise of apartheid!!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille "These people" utilised social engineering and control to force a population into believing that they are sub-human and used them to build the infrastructure and economy as cheap labour. Introduce education into the "other" population and the situation quickly became untenable!
@Balstrome@jabulilesellin1@IamEriOluwa@helenzille The post war culture was indoctrinated by the removal of the Emperor as a spiritual figurehead. Work for yourself instead of the Emperor was the ideology. The automotive industry would not have happened if not for the massive investment in Japan between 1946 and 1952 by USA
@DeonDuP34512278@Balstrome@IamEriOluwa@helenzille Also excessive funding by the Americans to seed an industrial complex that would project power close to a communist China. We all know how the projection of power in the Pacific has gone on to this day. Ignorance is indeed bliss in this scenario!
The @UN Decolonization Committee opened its 2022 session, beginning its annual work in reviewing the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories.
