I held a very fruitful telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State @marcorubio on key bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
Our discussion is proof to the commitment of both countries in translating the enduring relationship between Ethiopia and the United States into a more strategic and practical partnership.
I welcome the assurance of continued U.S. support for Ethiopia and our shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and multilateral priorities.
I had the opportunity to visit the Ethiopia Meteorology Institute, a long-standing institution whose work is vital to the country’s development and resilience. The visit reaffirmed the importance of meteorological data collection, scientific research, and technological advancement in strengthening our capacity to understand and respond to changing weather and climate conditions.
Strengthening institutions like the Ethiopia Meteorology Institute is essential. Investing in human capacity, modern technologies, and data infrastructure is critical to improving the services on which key sectors—including agriculture, water, health, aviation, and disaster risk management—depend. I was particularly encouraged by the importance of early warning systems in helping us anticipate risks, identify where interventions are most needed, and engage in a timely and effective manner. Reliable data, when translated into actionable information, saves lives, protects livelihoods, and supports better decision-making.
Such work goes beyond satellite observation. It also depends on a robust network of data collection stations and data centres across the country, where information is gathered, processed, and analysed to inform timely action.
Had a fruitful and constructive call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to deliberate upon bilateral relations and key regional developments, reaffirming our commitment to cooperation on matters of mutual interest.

Once neglected, now a strategic engine of growth! Under the #MedemerGovernment, Ethiopia’s mining sector is unlocking its potential to drive economic transformation and national prosperity. 🇪🇹

Our national flag embodies the values of Medemer, the strength of our unity, and Ethiopia’s unwavering ascent toward greatness.
Today, we proudly celebrated the 19th National Flag Day!
Our flag honors the sacrifices of generations past, reflects the determination of our people today, and symbolizes our shared aspirations for a prosperous future. It is an enduring emblem of Ethiopia’s sovereignty, dignity, and national pride.
The Medemer government remains firmly committed to elevating Ethiopia to new heights through unity, lasting peace, sustained development, and inclusive prosperity.
Our national flag must always unite us, never divide us. We may differ in ethnicity, language, culture, and faith, but we are bound together by our common Ethiopian identity, shared destiny, and collective aspiration for national progress.
The philosophy of Medemer calls upon us to embrace our diversity as a source of strength, deepen the values that unite us, and translate our shared commitment to Ethiopia’s greatness into collective action.
As we raise our flag high on this national occasion, let us renew our solemn commitment to safeguarding our sovereignty, strengthening our unity, preserving peace, and building a prosperous Ethiopia worthy of the sacrifices of those who came before us and the aspirations of generations yet to come.
Happy 19th National Flag Day!

The 19th National Flag Day
“Our Flag for National Consensus and Unity”
National unity is the foundation of Ethiopia’s path to prosperity. Our national flag symbolizes our shared history, sovereignty, and the strength we draw from standing together in our diversity.
At Adwa, people from all parts of the country put aside their differences and stood together, capturing the attention of the world. Rather than being divided by adversity, our ancestors demonstrated the power of unity. The call to stand together has never ceased, and each generation must choose how it will respond.
Medemer poses a simple question to us all: Are we merely spectators watching our nation’s destiny from the sidelines, or are we owners who can say, “This is my country, and its future is of concern to me”?
Our languages, religions, and identities are strands of a single fabric, woven together through centuries of shared history. Standing for the nation begins with small acts of courage and requires working toward a vision that goes beyond ourselves.
The generations before us made sacrifices so that we could inherit this country. Today, we must strengthen it together and pass it on to the generations to come..
Therefore, ask yourself today: What will you contribute to the unity and prosperity of your country?
Ethiopia launches first national precious metals refinery
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the country’s first national precious metals refinery at the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone. Designed to process over 600 tons per year, the facility aims to end the export of unrefined minerals and drive local value addition.
Ethiopia’s first gold refinery aims to become one of Africa’s largest precious-metals refining facilities by land area and a regional hub for gold refining and value addition.
🔹 Annual Capacity: 600+ tonnes at full capacity in first phase
🔹 Estimated Annual Value: Approximately US$80 billion
A major step toward strengthening Ethiopia’s role in Africa’s precious-metals industry.

The National Precious Metals Refinery, constructed within the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone, has the capacity to serve not only Ethiopia but also the broader East African and pan-African markets. By providing internationally credible refining and testing services, it enables neighboring countries and regional mining companies to bring their gold to Ethiopia for advanced refining, certification, value addition, and sale, eliminating the need to export it outside the continent.
I am proud to announce the launch of the National Precious Metals Refinery at Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone, established through a partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and Sam Precious Metals.
With a capacity to process over 600 tonnes of precious metals annually, the refinery marks a major milestone in advancing domestic value addition, strengthening Ethiopia’s mining sector, and positioning our country as a regional hub for precious-metals refining.
This initiative reflects the Medemer government’s commitment to linking our productive resources with industrial capacity—boosting export earnings, creating skilled jobs, supporting the jewellery industry, and building a more transparent and competitive gold value chain.
From resource extraction to industrial transformation, we are creating greater value at home.
Met with @DrSJaishankar , Minister of External Affairs of India, and his distinguished delegation today. Our discussions reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Ethiopia and India and explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation and strategic partnerships, building on my recent visit to India and engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Today, the House of Peoples' Representatives approved the nominees for the Council of Ministers. An appointment is not a position for leisure; rather, it is a realm of diligent labor and a profound national trust—one that demands immense effort to strengthen Ethiopia, foster its prosperity, and advance it along the path of civilization. In the coming years, extensive work is required to ensure Ethiopia remains sovereign in its decision-making, united amidst diversity, productive in creating and preserving value, a leading regional and continental anchor, and steadfast in the capabilities it passes on to the next generation.
The Medemer government is committed to realizing this vision!
I express my warmest congratulations to you dear friend Prime Minister @narendramodi, as you mark a key milestone: 25 years as Head of Government, first as Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 and as Prime Minister of India since 2014.
#Ethiopia and India’s partnership has grown stronger over the past few years. From India’s support for Ethiopia’s accession to BRICS, to welcoming you to Addis Ababa last December and my first visit to India for the BRICS Summit in September of this year. I look forward to further strengthening this partnership.

I met with Vice President @KashimSM of Nigeria, who is visiting Ethiopia for a three-day working visit accompanied by a delegation participating in the Ethiopia–Nigeria leadership exchange.
Ethiopia and Nigeria are diverse nations with multicultural societies and large populations. This provides valuable opportunities for mutual learning and the exchange of experiences as we continue to strengthen cooperation between our two countries.
