Inflation has little to do with hairdressers, dentists, or other so-called frivolous spending by younger people.

It’s mostly caused by corporate profits, and the remaining consumer spending component is largely caused by wealthy older people cashed up on rivers of unearned income provided by franking credits and negative gearing.

If there was ever a case where the older* and richer people of Australia are causing shocking harm via the tax policies they voted for to those poorer and younger who couldn’t even vote when these policies were legislated, these rising interest rates is it.

*Yes we bloody well know not all older people are wealthy, don’t @ us. But as a demographic cohort a shitload of them are doing much better than most younger people now being crucified by outrageous rent and mortgage payments, and it’s fucking unfair.

For the wealthy, going to the dentist is often cosmetic, precautionary or at worst, a quick way to solve a minor inconvenience.

For the poor, going to the dentist is often a major medical emergency centred around trying to solve a drastically reduced quality of life due to relentless intense pain, difficulty eating, and even difficulty breathing.

To equate “going to the dentist” with choice, discretion or frivolity is bizarre, offensive and so out of touch with reality Michele Bullock is unfit to lead anyone let alone an organisation whose decisions impact tens of millions of people, many of them struggling and vulnerable.
