Kebbi state is also running a @UNITAID funded screen and treat program on cervical cancer. My foundation, @MedicaidcfP is responsible for demand generation. Thus, I attended this session @WomenDeliver to learn and share from 4 other beneficiaries.
My conversation with @donnamirandais, @Jhpiego Awareness and Demand Generation officer, was quite helpful and I look forward to connecting with her.
The Guatemalan experience, which uses an apron to teach self sampling, was impressive. It shows that innovative solutions don’t have to be high tech, as long as it gets the job done.
Self sampling for #HPV testing has not been popular amongst our women in Kebbi. Any action whereby a woman “feels or touches” her genitalia is frowned on and considered self gratification. I think using this apron to teach them will help debunk this.

“Cervical cancer is a loud example of gender, health and social inequity and injustice that exists in the world today. Yet it is the one cancer that we can eliminate. We must join hands to muster more political will, strong policies, more funding and increase awareness.”
