A friend told me that schools are indoctrinating his kids by having certain books in the library…
I asked if his kids make their beds every morning even though he repeatedly tells them to. If he can’t indoctrinate them to do that then they’ll be fine in the school library.
I actually just said “You don’t hear anyone else barking do you?” to my dog... so that’s how school technology coordinators are feeling as we near the end of this mess of a pandemic school year. We are not ok.
@cameronstrang I’m a school librarian, so these aren’t written for adults but are still so beneficial and enjoyable for adults.
Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes - beautifully written, socially relevant, eye opening, and inspiring
Refugee and Ground Zero by Alan Gratz - same as above
“Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school.”
Thank you, Beverly Cleary for creating the stories that so many of us enjoyed reading as children. Rest in peace.
@AzieDee Where can I find a copy of How I Survived the 18th Century? Heard you on This American Life recently and can’t find the book anywhere. Would love to read & support.
My childhood love of highlightsforchildren was fierce. My current love of highlightsforchildren, in the wake of this statement, is 100 times greater. https://t.co/g4ripaOFph

9 year old: *sings* “Baaabyyyy SHARK! Doo doo do do do do...”
