I'm super proud of my first PhD student, @ferreira_rute2, who has officially graduated! It was an honor to work with you over the past years, and I am certain you have a bright future ahead. A big thank you to @FigueiredoCeu and @azeredo_joana for sharing this journey with me!
Exciting news! 🚨 Huge congratulations to @ferreira_rute2 for successfully defending her PhD! 🎉 Your supervisors (@MeloLDR, @azeredo_joana, @FigueiredoCeu) and all your lab colleagues are incredibly proud of you.
In 2010, I decided to work with phages and became immediately fascinated by them. Although I hoped to see them in practice someday, I never imagined that day would come so soon. Proud to be part of this journey and to work with the entire @AzeredoLab team
📢 Historic day for Portugal and phage therapy! 🇵🇹 A framework was approved, allowing magistral preparation of personalized phage products. 🙌 Grateful to Jean-Paul Pirnay, my group @AzeredoLab Portuguese patients, and doctors who signed a petition inspired by the Belgium model.
I want to thank to all co-authors for contributing to this outcome! Special thanks to @ferreira_rute2 for her hard work and to @FigueiredoCeu for her invaluable collaboration.
In our more recent publication we developed a PCR-based strategy to detect prophages in H. pylori. We characterized in silico 12 new prophages and studied their impact on H. pylori.

Magistral phage preparation according to the Belgium model of phage therapy is being discussed by the Portuguese government. @azeredo_joana and @DPP_Pires were at the parliament to present the concept as a result of a petition initiated by two patients who received phage therapy.
