You guys wanna read a sick rendition of Theseus and the Minotaur that doesn’t make you feel the BIG GUILT for being white and/or male, ASTERIUS by Susana Imaginario is one you gotta check out
So many new followers this past week(!) A quick (re)introduction is in order.
Hello! My name is Susana Imaginário (yes, that is my actual name) and I write slipstream (yes, that is a real thing).
I'm a critical thinker, frank and straightforward (what thin-skinned people call abrasive and opinionated). You've been warned ;)
My work is aimed at emotionally mature individuals with a (perhaps dark) sense of humour who are not easily offended.
I usually post about books, films, board games, and nature, as well as updates on my work, publishing, and random things I find amusing or worth sharing. (this includes a lot of silly nonsense, apologies in advance)
I try to avoid politics, but I will occasionally call out the harm caused by the mindset and actions of modern/faux feminists, communists, and/or the woke. I believe it's important to understand their psychology in order to understand their tactics and policies. Like many others, I've been quiet and tolerant for too long, with dire consequences. Never again.
I call a spade a spade and I use correct pronouns.
Feel free to message me anytime (replies can be slow). I'm always happy to talk about books and I welcome criticism (good or bad).
Have a great weekend!
Men DO read.
Something interesting happened last weekend.
I set up shop at a craft market. It was my most successful day selling in person so far. About halfway through, I noticed that most people who either approached the table or even looked at it were men (many glancing over their shoulders wishfully or with curiosity while their girlfriends/wives dragged them over to the stands with jewellery, beauty stuff, and knick-knacks).
Only three women bought books from me, and one of them did it for her son (not her daughter, the daughter didn’t read books, she said).
More importantly, the men who came over to the table knew exactly what they wanted (mostly sci-fi) and what they didn’t (romantasy, smut, feminist retellings, LGBT stuff, basically all the things trad publishing is forcing onto the shelves).
One even said that he used to read a lot more before "women appropriated publishing." There was no misogyny in his tone, only sadness and a hint of resentment.
The fact that I'm a woman didn't put them off, though. Not in person. And once I described my work and they realized I read the same stuff they did, they were willing to try it.
Anyway, this is getting too long.
TL:DR – Men read. They read quite a lot, actually, maybe even more than women, and they’re starved for new and interesting stories that aren’t distorted by narcissism/feminism, bad writing, 'reimaginings', and/or woke ideology.
They want to read more. They just don't want to read more crap.
