I've met hundreds of immigrants at 26 Federal Plaza over the past year — escorting them, connecting them to legal support & advocating for their release from ICE detention.
I was able to sit down with a few of them recently for dinner at Emma's Torch, a nonprofit restaurant that prepares refugees for culinary careers.
Tomorrow, when I go into the courtroom for my trial, I'll be thinking of Yasir, Joel, Carlos, and so many others who have fallen victim to ICE’s cruelty. And remembering, too, what beautiful New Yorkers they are becoming.
We must not be afraid in the face of this fascist President and his rogue federal agents. It’s a time for standing up fearlessly to bear witness and protect our immigrant neighbors.
Scalia died in February 2016. It took Obama a full month to nominate a replacement and then he used no leverage and barely lifted a finger for Garland; the party was more focused in the moment at making sure everyone understood how racist and sexist Bernie Sanders was.
Plenty of Obama aides were actually glad when Dems lost the senate in 2014 because they were sick of Harry Reid pushing Obama to be more assertive and fight more.
They lost the Senate in 2014 largely because of Obama’s capitulation to/obsession with austerity and reducing the deficit.
He constantly insisted he had no real power — Neera will probably respond by saying he had no power — which Trump has proved totally wrong.
And when RBG died in September 2020 Trump nominated ACB the next week. They play to win.
But sure, a 5 minute segment from @chrislhayes would’ve made the difference. (And I’m sure he did do a bunch actually.)
Today, I signed an Executive Order temporarily repealing bedtimes in the City of New York so that kids of all ages can watch our team in the NBA Finals.
As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them.
Go Knicks.

I’m running for U.S. Congress to represent #MD06. I’m a technologist, finance nerd, former regulator, and queer mom of 2.
I’m not afraid of holding bullies accountable & my experience makes me uniquely qualified to do just that in Congress.
Who doesn't agree with taxing billionaires more? Oh right, the billionaires!
They may whine about it (and even try buying elections to stop us), but the movement is growing to tax obscene wealth — and use it to fund child care, health care, and affordable housing.
In NYC, that’s the pied-a-terre tax. In Washington, that’s Senator @ewarren’s 2-cent wealth tax on fortunes over $50 million (and 3-cents over $1 billion).
Trump attacked me this weekend for talking about job losses & higher prices on Fox News.
Now, he says he doesn’t think about Americans’ financial situation.
Is it too much to ask an American President to care about Toledo more than Tehran?
