2025's Library Week Patron Appreciation Day was a success! We hope everyone enjoyed visiting and snacking, and of course our contests. The door prize will be drawn today but the adult, family, and kid contests will go until the end of the month, so lots of time to participate!

The library's 2025 Summer Fun Program is officially over! Friday's last day of program was combined with a community BBQ and it was a busy, fun filled day of activities, games, crafts, and food for everyone!

It's almost back to school time & we've got an amazing assortment of books to help you normalize and explore the big feelings experienced during back-to-school time. Some books are sure to make you smile & even lol! Check out these books to enjoy as we say goodbye to summer!

On Thursday, our group enjoyed ABC of Canada by Kim Bellefontaine—a bright and fun alphabet book that celebrates Canadian culture, places, and symbols from A to Z. Inspired by the story, we created our own ABC book, which you can come see proudly displayed at the library!

Last week wrapped up Summer Program at the Melville Library!
On Wednesday, our group journeyed through North America and dove into Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. After reading, we got creative by making our own compasses 📷 and then topped it off with colorful sand art!

Back inside, we read Backyard Animals: Moose, a fascinating book that taught us all about these incredible gentle giants and how they live in the wild. Finally, the kids created moose masks—complete with handprint antlers to make them extra special!

Tuesday's 4–7 year olds had a fun-filled afternoon at the library!
We read Walking Together by Elder Albert D. Marshall and Louise Zimanyi. This story shares the importance of caring for the land, each other, & all living things as we walk gently together through life.

Afterwards, we headed outside to make art from nature! The children were careful to only use leaves, sticks, and other treasures that had already fallen to the ground—nothing still growing.

After the story we created our own Baby Bear masks to wear.

On Monday our babies had their final program day of the summer! They ventured into North America with the book Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See? — a sweet story that takes little ones on a journey through the forest as Baby Bear meets different animals along the way.

Friday’s summer program group had a blast at the spray park! We splashed around, played giant Jenga, blew bubbles, twirled hula hoops, and enjoyed the playground. What a perfect day for fun in the sun!

Our pyramid is complete!
Our 4–7 year olds worked hard colouring blocks to help build this amazing pyramid, and now it’s proudly on display at the Melville Public Library!
