An exploit on any protocol is a hit to the whole ecosystem. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the Ostium incident today.
Since Ostium began as a fork of Gains, many of you have asked if we shared the same risk. We don’t.
Our prices don't come from a single signer or keeper. Every trade is priced by a median of many independent Chainlink DON operators (each a median of multiple feeds), with a reference-feed circuit-breaker that rejects any off-market print.
Although an extremely difficult situation, we wish Ostium and their community the very best in resolving this. 🫡
@KingOfZhumadian@Msamalam Eliminating the entire Yen-denominated market has its consequences. You effectively prevent Japanese firms from ever raising capital, and foreigners would probably need decades before lending Japan anything again. There’s a reason Zimbabwe doesn’t have a good reputation
@KingOfZhumadian@Msamalam Which gets baked into interest rates going forward, so you can't borrow cheaply anymore and have a pretty big debt burden now.
@Msamalam It's not really Takaichi, It's mostly BOJ policy & the result of multi-decade stimulus playing out. The other choice is halt it which would (at least in the short term) hurt Japan's economy even more.
@TeaBagCapital@zxi91 You can sell a portion of the stock to emulate a dividend if that's the behavior you want. You can't do it the other way around without the bad tax treatment.
@cronosbro@IndraStocks@EquityBrian Skreli was famous for knowing how medicine actually works and using the public clinical data about said meds to effectively front-run the results of clinical trials.
@Muquero You don't PPP adjust a trip to a foreign country. It's not cheaper to have a holiday in the US because you live in a foreign country with a low CoL.
@jasonbenner@GreenPlusAnE You aren't wrong with the cohort growing (and people spending a greater % of life retired due to longer life expectancies), but when it becomes a larger share of GDP at the cost of long-term investment, it's still problematic.
@DWhite54321@peterrhague In the US that's 1 year or less. The idea behind lower taxes on Cap Gains is it encourages more investment, and most projects aren't going to play out in a year or less.
@zGuz@punk9059 Probably just means you can't open a new account to get around it. They have your SSN as a part of AML laws, so they can say "This person isn't allowed to buy IPOs for X time"
@Gaismair We can! High speed rail is just not economic over those distances when cars exist. We use rail largely for industrial purposes, because low speed rail is very cheap and it doesn't matter if grains get to market today or tomorrow.
