1992 October 22
In Sokhumi, the building of the Dimitri Gulia Institute of Language and Literature of Abkhazia and the State Archives of Abkhazia were burnt down almost simultaneously. The simultaneous destruction of the buildings raised suspicions about their deliberate burning.

1992 August 31
Ceasefire adopted in Abkhazia, w. Russia playing mediator.
Minister of Justice of Abkhazia, an ethnic Georgian, calls for the disbanding of parliament because it ‘was elected under discriminatory election laws in July 1991.’

1992 October 5/6
Capture of Gagra comple, the mass movement of the Georgian population towards Russia began. Revenge and rioting took place in Gagra for several days, killing and wounding hundreds of civilians and militias.

1992 August 29
In Sochi consultations are held on resolving the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. Russian delegation represented by 6 members led by Sergey Shoigu, the Abkhaz side - Vladislav Ardzinba and Konstantin Ozgan, while the Georgian side was represented only by Tengiz Kitovani.

1992 August 15
Georgian Navy entered #Gagra and raised the #Georgian flag at the Russian-Georgian border. The #Abkhaz authorities have found themselves in a military blockade.

Georgian troops enter territory of Abkhazia, ostensibly to guard railway. On the same day, the Abkhaz side announced the mobilization of troops.

Abkhaz Supreme Soviet passes resolution terminating the 1978 Abkhaz constitution, returning to 1925 constitution, which establishes Abkhazia as being merely in federation with Georgia.

#Ardzinba addresses Geo. State Council, saying Abkhazia ready 2 sign partnership document w. Geo., but that Abkhaz subjugation 2 Geo. unacceptable: “There’s no need for acknowledgment of sovereignty; it is the right of the Abkhaz people.”
