After reflection, and it was tough, i'm going to go with fall of cadia/eye of terror splitting the galaxy in 2.
40k became noticeably worst for me after that and is the start of so many things i hate.

@LavenderGhast I certainly don't remember a golden rule in the TTRPG that pcs have to meet a bad end no matter what, although admittedly i've never been in a game where pcs achieved all their goals, simply surviving and not letting the city drag you down is a victory in itself.
