Important context on taxpayer contributions to AI: For over 60 years, U.S. taxpayers have funded foundational AI research through DARPA, NSF, NIH, and other agencies. Recent years alone: ~$2.4–3.3 billion annually in federal AI R&D (core + supporting). Cumulative over decades: tens of billions in direct grants/contracts (plus admin/review overhead), seeding early neural nets, machine learning, and related tech.
This public seed helped enable today’s boom which private investment has scaled massively. Worth remembering when discussing ownership/stakes.
