This is a really important research paper so I wanted to share some of the key parts with you. There is evidence that body identical HRT can reduce dementia onset and also it is known that oestradiol can improve blood flow to the brain, reduce inflammation, improve mitochondrial function (which is what generates the energy to power cells), improve glucose metabolism in the brain, work as a neurotransmitter and improve dendrite density. Testosterone can also have beneficial effects on the brain including help to build the myelin sheath, which is what allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the nerve cells. So the physiology of these hormones shows they improve brain function and therefore would suggest that they can reduce dementia risk.

@NikitaSilver6 This article draws on a few research studies but yes, from my understanding the study that found the association between HRT and Alzheimer's used older types of HRT for their research.
As we know, oestrogen levels drop during #Menopause resulting in increased bone loss.

Personally, #HRT has helped physical aspects of very symptomatic #earlymenopause - but hasn't affected the psychological aspects. Even within physical symptom reduction, effects are not always consistent. So much more research needed to improve options and outcomes.

Recently I delivered a talk to 250 healthcare professionals who work in mental health teams to highlight the role of our hormones in relation to our mental health.
As you’ll hear in this clip, we have oestrogen and testosterone receptors all over our bodies and in our brain as well. Each area of the brain plays a role in the way we think, the way we move and the way we act, and so when our hormone levels reduce, many women will experience psychological symptoms too.
It’s really important that our hormones are considered when women are struggling with their mental health, so receiving this feedback from the consultant psychiatrist who organised the event is really good to see:
“I must say I think we will all consider the menopause much more in our clinical practice after yesterday, I am keen to see if we can get some agreement or guidance around this and how we can potentially advise GP colleagues to consider HRT treatment if they have not done so already. I certainly will be suggesting it in my practice.”
