@HowzThat1com Absolutely - and I think you've captured one of the main take aways here: the influence of parental drinking habits and attitudes on young people's use/exposure to alcohol. Definitely something worth bearing in mind + young people's perception of 'drinking culture' generally.
NHS Digital have just released their Smoking, Drinking and Drug Use among young people report (2018). You can read more on/from the report here: https://t.co/803LJSrIql
Young people interviewed on @BBCNewsbeat yesterday re-iterated that if we are to impact #knifecrime we need to invest in youth clubs and services in local communities (not #ChickenBox warnings). A lesson we need to start listening to them. #prevention#youngpeople
We've just released our latest drug trend report - covering 2017 and 2018. Read it on our website here: https://t.co/8rrhmoGaG2 #DrugTrends#HarmReduction#Scotland
Many of the people in our report had dozens or more interactions with social workers, GPs, police and others but those professionals had not received the right training to identify and address alcohol issues. This meant the risks alcohol posed were missed: https://t.co/E9NmZg6mNo
It is deeply saddening to read the report on drug-related deaths in Scotland, as we know these are preventable fatalities. We believe that alongside treatment programmes, that investment in prevention is vital to making an impact on future generations. https://t.co/tnZL8QMwB6
Long schools holiday are really challenging for some families in South West #Edinburgh. Help tackle holiday #hunger by donating items to our local #foodbank this summer. 🥫🍞🍍
@Butterf90900238 @VoltefaceHub Well - community-based solutions to problems that are getting worse are ideal, esp. if they involve developing responses from/by those with lived experience. If that's what you mean by direct action, we're all for it (as well as govt. making money available to those doing it!)
This report demonstrates the need for investment in real infrastructural support for young people. It also shows how prevention work needs to start younger, at primary school. We've also been saying this about high quality #DrugPrevention and #Education: https://t.co/pfJm49SDre
- @DHSCgovuk & @PHE_uk need our help in building an accurate picture of *digital* #prevention, treatment or #recovery interventions. This is an important project for the whole sector. Support and share: https://t.co/Xqz7artqrg
Lots of media coverage on legalising cannabis, and as ever the main issue for us is supporting young people with quality education and information on the risks and harms of all substance use. #Prevention#Education
Great to have been at the #BehindTheNumbers launch today. Watch films from the launch here: https://t.co/up7vG5ALoM and get involved if you can! @ScotFamADrugs
@green_mjg Completely agree! That's why we want to ensure parents and carers feel informed when talking to their children. We also think its important to create links between schools and families so that neither institution is seen as 'the answer' in isolation.
