@thegentledyke Also like, allies are encouraged to go to most pride events? Anyone policing people's identities at pride is a thousand times more bothersome than the ally showing up and being respectful.
@datesandfigs I literally tell matches I don't like getting to know people through text and just wanna meet for coffee or a drink. I have no interest investing time/energy into someone if I don't know if there's in-person chemistry.
@jackiedotnet I know the eyes are dramatized for artistic purposes but with regular looking eyes and shapely brows, that person would very much look like a woman.
@762x54RAWR Making women friends you can talk this stuff out with really helps. It hasn't changed my transition goals in the slightest, but it does make my dysphoria and insecurities easier to manage in the moment.
@latkedelrey Also, gee I wonder who would appeal to women more: a man with a passion involving talent, socializing, and not being afraid to put yourself out there...or a guy who builds his whole personality around whatever it is he thinks women are impressed by.
@michellexotter I've felt this way in gay environments where people are shocked if you're not interested in X,Y,Z (like showtunes, drag race, etc). But luckily I've found a lot more "come as you are" atmospheres where anyone can feel welcome just by virtue of being queer.
@baggyclothesgrl @evangelainy No place will "fix" you. You still have to put yourself out there to find your people. But you'll have far more opportunities to do that in cities than just about anywhere else.
@sofiabuffgf Like, walk down any city street that's not in an ultra wealthy or tourist-heavy part of town and it's clear most people don't have drip. Most people don't have the time or money or it's just not a priority for them every time they leave home.
@the_moral_abc If you want mentorship or individualized guidance, you should seek people who are willing to offer those things. Or better yet, a combination of people. You can't just expect any trans woman who you envy or admire to come up with your transition plan.
@polypocketknife My advice to early transitioners is usually like...wear what you want...thrifting is fun...learning makeup requires trial and error...make friends. All kinda run of the mill advice you can find anywhere for exactly the reason you explained.
@chachamyeon Sometimes I leave the house with such baddie energy and I'll still have no idea when anyone's flirting with me. I know some people find that endearing, but again, the whole having no idea when anyone's flirting with me thing.
@Kajel96536401@splffrchrd To put it simply:
Gender dysphoria: rational distress from knowing people don't perceive you as your gender because of your physical characteristics.
Body dysmorphia: an incorrect or exaggerated perception of your physical characteristics.
@Cherrybae333@_gothhardt_ We *should* be concerned and take precautions. But for me personally, my main approach to surviving fascism has been building community with a diverse array of people who can help me in different ways. Building those connections will get harder as fascism deepens.
@LewdClara @thereisnobeth Cรฌs women friends have backstabbed me a couple times. It put me in a dark place. But after a while, I just tried again, met new people, used the past as lessons for what I value in others. And now even if it were to happen again, I'd have so many more friends to help me thru it.
@Comunizzazione@_gothhardt_ That's valid. There's no easy answer. You have to protect your peace and stay safe. But even just knowing those supportive people are out there somewhere and that you deserve their love and kinship will give you a leg up over the people who say these friendships can't happen.
@Comunizzazione@_gothhardt_ I started by joining queer groups and befriending lesbians. Then met more through those friends, community organizing, and just being friendly to women who act normal towards me.
@WorstGirlEva It's not my place to tell people in minority groups I'm not part of what to do. But people in other oppressed groups absolutely have these discussions among each other.
