Good morning from Blue Mountain in the Davis Mountains of West Texas.

Blue Mountain rises dramatically about 1,800 feet above the Point of Rocks roadside park on State Highway 166. It's visible from the Davis Mountains Scenic Loop and other areas around Fort Davis.

It's a classic West Texas mountain feature—rugged, volcanic, and part of the "sky island" biodiversity hotspot. If you're planning a visit, the Scenic Loop or state park makes for a great way to experience it!

@mintherose There’s nothing to apologize for. The album was a brilliant fusion of Simon’s vivid lyricism and Americana sensibilities alongside the extraordinary musicianship of its South African contributors. It’s a profoundly beautiful album. The parody’s great but Simon’s not this naive.

@bfin01322150 @mintherose Except that several of the musicians who participated on the album and/or its subsequent tour were anti-Apartheid activists themselves, including Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Joseph Shabalala and Ray Phiri. The album arguably contributed to the end of Apartheid.

@RoyDelfino @kylegordon101 There definitely was some soul searching on the side but you’re right. He also wasn’t this naive about it and actively promoted the work of South African musicians and artists including Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, the Boyoyo Boys, Stimela and Ladysmith Black Mombazo.

@SlackfulCyclops @DJ_AlphaT @DavidPhelan3 @constans Out of curiosity, what did you think about Graceland’s predecessor Hearts and Bones? Stylistically it’s closer to S&G (and was originally meant to be a S&G reunion album).

@DJ_AlphaT @SlackfulCyclops @DavidPhelan3 @constans That’s definitely one of the poppiest tracks on the album, but it’s more based around South African township jive music than synth pop ie. Depeche Mode or Stock Aitken Waterman’s productions. Lyrically of course it’s much more elaborate than what is normally thought as synth pop.
