My fellow Americans: Please direct your attention to this matter for just a moment. Allow this to sink in. The President of the United States of America just said he wants to ban the free press. He said he doesn’t want them in his office, which by the way is the Oval Office in the People’s House. This is unheard of, and we the people cannot let this be!

For the record, we have a free press in this country. For the record we should all be worried not just about this latest outburst, but by all of it going forward without permission — putting our service members in harms way, raising tariffs willy nilly, threatening buildings and institutions unless his name gets put on them. This is not the behavior of a centered leader who is focused on the good of the people. This is not the behavior of a compassionate leader focused on the millions of Americans who cannot afford healthcare, childcare, gas, or food. This is not the behavior of a man who can emotionally regulate himself.

We should all be concerned — those who voted for him and those who didn’t. The midterms are around the corner. Vote like your life and the lives of others are at stake, because they are. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The Kennedy Memorial is made of irreplaceable marble that was gifted by Italy.

Matisse tapestries found throughout were gifted from France.

The massive starburst chandelier in the Opera Hall, and lights along walkways, were a gift from Sweden.

The record-breaking stage curtains were a gift from Japan. They had to build special looms to weave them because of how big they are.

The grounds are beautiful with displays of art.

His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in March.

He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.

5 months later:
Savings wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren't their problem.

He told me he's not the same person anymore.

Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn't go away.

They did everything right.
Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives.

One diagnosis all of it in 7 months.

And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting $35 million bonus this quarter.

I don't know how people defend this system with a straight face.

In 1972, security guard Frank Wills foiled a break-in at the Watergate Hotel after catching five men bugging the Democratic National Committee HQ. They were spying for the White House, a discovery that exposed a massive conspiracy and became the scandal that forced President Nixon to resign.

In June 1972, Frank Wills, a 24-year-old security guard, made a discovery that would change American political history. While working a night shift at the Watergate Hotel complex in Washington, D.C., he noticed tape placed over door latches to keep them from locking. After removing it and later finding it replaced, Wills called police, leading to the arrest of five men inside the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee.

The break-in initially seemed like a small burglary, but investigations revealed the men were connected to operatives working to support the re-election campaign of Richard Nixon. What followed became known as the Watergate scandal, a massive political cover-up involving illegal surveillance, secret recordings, and abuse of presidential power.

The scandal unfolded over two years, fueled by investigative journalism and congressional hearings. In August 1974, facing almost certain impeachment, Nixon became the first U.S. president to resign from office.

Despite his crucial role in exposing the scandal, Wills received little financial or public recognition during his lifetime. He continued working modest jobs, and historians later credited his attentiveness and decision to call police as one of the most consequential acts by a private citizen in modern U.S. political history.

Florence Thompson, the Migrant Mother in Dorothea Lange's famous 1936 photo, holds up her likeness during an interview after her identity was made known, October 10, 1978...

In 1936, a photograph taken by Dorothea Lange during the Great Depression became one of the most recognizable images of hardship in American history. The subject, later identified as Florence Thompson, symbolized the struggle of migrant farm workers and displaced families during one of the nation’s darkest economic periods. Yet for decades, her identity remained unknown to the public.

When Thompson was finally identified in the late 1970s, she revealed mixed feelings about the image that had made her an enduring symbol of survival. While the photograph helped raise awareness about the desperate living conditions of migrant workers and influenced government relief efforts, Thompson herself never received compensation. She explained that she had simply been trying to keep her children fed when the image was captured.

At the time the photograph was taken, Thompson was only 32 years old and caring for seven children. The famous image helped prompt the U.S. government to send emergency food aid to the camp where she and thousands of others were living. Decades later, when Thompson became ill in the 1980s, public donations, sparked by recognition of the photograph, helped pay her medical expenses, completing a remarkable historical full circle.
