The World Cup has turned America into a discovery channel for the rest of the world.
And they are not handling it well.
In the best possible way.
Here is what they are discovering:
Free public restrooms. Europeans pay every time.
Free water at every restaurant. Just appears.
Free refills. Coffee. Sodas. Iced tea. Unlimited.
Free chips and salsa before you even order.
Free warm bread with dinner.
Ice in drinks like civilized people.
Air conditioning everywhere. Not a moral debate. A fact.
Parking lots attached to the actual place you are going.
Drive throughs where the food comes to the car while you sit in it.
Ranch dressing by the gallon.
Tex-Mex that cannot be explained only experienced.
Dental care that actually works.
Buccee’s. There are no words for Buccee’s.
Then they found the grocery stores.
Five of them within one mile.
Each one the size of an aircraft hangar.
Burgers. Steaks. Brisket. Ribs. Pulled pork. Lamb. Veal. Every cut of every animal ever domesticated by human civilization available in one refrigerated aisle at ten in the morning on a Tuesday.
The Germans stood in the meat section for forty five minutes.
In silence.
Processing.
They finally understand why we do not have trains.
We have roads wide enough for the cars we actually drive.
Parking lots the size of small European countries.
Airports in every city worth visiting.
Why would we need trains.
The Germans are taking ranch home by the bottle.
The Dutch found queso and briefly lost the ability to speak.
The Japanese are photographing HEB like it is the Louvre.
The Czechs are weeping in West, Texas.
Welcome to America!
The greatest country on earth.
American Airlines surprised passengers on a flight to Seattle with USMNT jerseys, soccer balls, and World Cup-themed care packages waiting at every seat.
Fabuloso.
🇺🇸🚨 THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER IS BLASTING IN SEATTLE STADIUM!
Today marks the first-ever FIFA World Cup match on Seattle soil for our @USMNT, and the 12th Man is showing up LOUD for America!
USA chants are loud and proud!
Four months ago, a notice was put up that a trampoline park was going to be constructed opposite my street. Today, that trampoline park has been built, roofed and interior works ongoing.. some days, you wake up, drive outside and you see a new construction done it of nowhere..
Ngl we tend to underestimate the US’ infrastructural power: about 8 US stadia used for WC games so far with none repeated and all already existing, no hurried construction prior or anything.
Impressive ngl.
America is massive and I don’t think Europeans fully understand that until they visit.
Flying between states can feel like travelling between countries…
I don’t think Americans realise how insane their gas stations look to the rest of us.
Some of these places are bigger than actual supermarkets back home.
I know this sounds dramatic but this genuinely felt like an out of earth experience.
Massive burritos, ridiculous portions and flavours that make no sense but somehow work.
America, what are you doing to me?
Things in America that make no sense to a Brit - Day 7
The fridges.
Why are they so massive?
I’ve seen American fridges bigger than some kitchens back home.
They lied to us about American stadiums 💀
Europe stadiums can’t even sit at the same table. These are straight-up MONSTER stadiums 👑 for the WorldCup 😳
