Yesterday, we officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to accelerate inclusive development across Abia.

The MoU signified a commitment from both parties to pursue sustainable growth in key sectors. We are grateful for UNDP’s support and partnership, and motivated by their belief in Abia’s potential.

Afterwards, we commissioned the Aba Export Growth Lab at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba. The facility will empower MSMEs in standardisation, brand development, and international market penetration.

The initiative targets high-impact sectors like footwear, fashion apparel, and the Akwete textiles. I emphasised to stakeholders that excellence must remain non-negotiable. Products failing to meet defined standards should not be endorsed, and the Lab must maintain rigorous quality assurance protocols.

The Lab is not for government revenue, it is for the upliftment of our entrepreneurs. The essence of governance is securing the welfare of our people, and we remain firmly focused on that goal.

I salute our esteemed partners: Ms. Elsie Attafuah of UNDP, Mrs. Nkeiru Ezenwanne of NEXIM Bank, and Mr. Francis Anatogu of Transaharan Consulting, whose support gives depth to this vision.

The Aba Export Growth Lab represents a promise to our industrious people that Abia State stands ready to support their journey toward global relevance.
