"What we see is a genocidal state that is completely out of control and supported by a Western world that is, in large measure, too racist and Islamophobic to care."
@TaaviS Exactly this. But it’s not even realism when you don’t care about any risk analysis and make Finland dependent long term on a genocidal country that is supportive of Russia. It’s just unethical stupid politics.
Tänään olin puhumassa @huomentasuomi kirjastani #thehumanitarianparent joka käsittelee perheen ja työn yhteensovittamista avustustyössä. Haastattelu löytyy täältä. https://t.co/T2fytXxSzN
Paediatric doctor gives powerful Gaza testimony at DNC
Dr Tanya Haj-Hassan called on Democrats in power to do more to stop the bloodshed in Gaza, as she recalled harrowing stories of injured children during her time volunteering in Gaza as a paediatrician.
Dr Haj-Hassan was speaking at the Democratic National Convention's first ever panel on Palestinian rights. The story of a boy who arrived with half his face blown off and later found out the rest of his family had been killed caused visible distress to other members of the panel, one of whom left in tears.

- You have to write !
- To say what?!
- To tell their story!
- You think that someone that has not been moved by the images of a grandma killed while holding the hand of her grandchild raising a white flag will be moved by my words…you think that someone that has not been moved by a father hugging the remains of his house as his children were under the rubble will be moved by my words… that someone who has seen a girl survive after losing her parents and after having her leg amputated, and saw her saying she will become a doctor to help others only to see her being killed a few days later is going to be moved by my words…if they need words let them read aloud 30,000 names of people, of human beings, wiped off the face of the earth, and if that is too many words at least the names of 12,000 child killed.
- Write
- And then?! How many lives will that save ?!
- None…but you have to keep writing
- To say what, there is nothing left to say!!!
- I know
- Then why the hell should I write !!!
- So silence does not prevail…
UNRWA’s lifesaving aid in Gaza threatened by donors recklessly suspending aid. UNRWA has rightly terminated the contracts of those alleged to violate our neutrality principle. Donors, do not starve children for the sins of a few individual aid workers. https://t.co/nUbeX2Iwrp
A year ago @Ulkoministerio was leading the Good Humanitarian Donorship initiative and is dedicated to needs-based and principled humanitarian funding. The need in Gaza is clear. There is a genocide. Not the moment to stop aid to a UN agency responsible for life-saving work.
Goodbye “good humanitarian donorship”?
Nine donors recklessly suspend funding for UNRWA in the hour of greatest need for Gazans under bombardment.
Relieved Norway is sensible and keeps funding UNRWA, that has fired all the questioned staff, and awaits the external investigation.
So the US can instantly cut off funds for UNRWA’s life-saving work in Gaza based on unproven allegations against a tiny handful of its employees but won’t stop arming & funding an Israeli military that the highest court in the world says is possibly committing genocide. Got it.
UNRWA lifesaving assistance is about to end following countries decisions to cut their funding to the Agency.
Our humanitarian operation, on which 2 million people depend as a lifeline in Gaza, is collapsing. I am shocked such decisions are taken based on alleged behavior of a few individuals and as the war continues, needs are deepening & famine looms.
Palestinians in Gaza did not need this additional collective punishment. This stains all of us.

The response to the ICJ should have been sanctions on Israel. Instead, Western donor countries have placed sanctions on Palestinians
Genuinely, I think this one of the darkest moments in the history of humanitarianism. This will have Rwanda-level implications for the aid world.
NEW: US State Department pressed on Israel’s destruction of Israa University in Gaza
“You have NOTHING to say about this??”
“You keep saying that you want Israel not to destroy the infrastructure, yet we are seeing almost a TOTAL destruction of ALL infrastructure...”
I had the privilege to be there when @TuomiojaErkki was handed an Honorary Doctorate at the Uni of Palestine back in 2013. All universities in Gaza have now been damaged or destroyed. Surely @helsinkiuni or other universities of the world would have something to say about this?
The Israeli military just blew up the University of Palestine in Gaza City with 315 mines. All the universities in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed. We need a full academic boycott.
