@selfstyledsiren I've convinced myself her visit to the closet came after providing a commentary track for a yet to be announced Criterion release of Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl (1998).
Well, a guy can always dream.
@jfkenney Wholeheartedly agree with your first two picks. For third and fourth...I'd probably go with EMPIRE OF THE SUN and WEST SIDE STORY (though I also have a lot to love for WAR HORSE).
@jfkenney@afuckingmohawk The stories Haskell Wexler shared of the filming are nuts. Basically, both Blake and Harris were certifiable.
Attended a sneak preview here in Sacramento (before its extremely limited release) when it was titled The Hamster of Happiness.
A quick shout out to @OutlawTVNetwork for broadcasting films in their proper aspect ratio. Enjoyed so many these last few weeks; Mark Rydell's THE COWBOYS, Jacques Tourneur's WICHITA and, of course, Sam Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH.
Keep up the great work.
In the midst of Tarantino's nonsense last week he said "So you put him (Daniel Day-Lewis) with the weakest male actor in SAG? The limpest dick in the world?" This particular swipe seems less directed at Paul Dano and more towards Paul Thomas Anderson.
@jfkenney Conrad Hall (seated near camera), Billy 'Green' Bush, director Guercio (cowboy hat) and Robert Blake (hydrating) on the set of ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE (1973).
@jfkenney Steve McQueen gave Guercio the heave-ho after only three days of filming on TOM HORN (1980). McQueen was furious at Robert Blake for not warning him about Guercio's inabilities.
@jfkenney Robert Blake mentions in his book TALES OF A RASCAL he and cinematographer Conrad Hall could see early on Guercio wasn't up to the task so it was decided between them that Hall would handle things behind the camera and Blake the front.
@selfstyledsiren I count myself amongst its fans though I never understood why Carol Reed permitted Robert Newton's role/performance to overshadow James Mason's during the final act.
