Rangelands cover over 40% of the Earth's land surface, yet they remain one of the most under-recognized ecosystems. 🌍✨
We’re heading to @GlobalLandscapesForum Africa 2026 to change that. Catch our speakers at multiple sessions in the next two days. Together with pastoralist communities, we’re spotlighting innovation, governance, and the power of local stewardship.

As we conclude #Cow Month, we celebrate the pastoralist communities who manage vast rangelands under increasingly unpredictable climates. To these keepers of the land, the cow is a source of life and a pillar of culture.🐄
Join us in spotlighting the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.

From the 3rd Presidential High-Level Dialogue on financing Agenda 2063.
Key takeaways: renewed political commitment to African-led development finance; stronger coordination among AMFIs; and clear pathways to mobilize long-term, affordable capital at scale.
#AAMFI#AU2026
On the sidelines of the 39th AU Summit, @AAMFI_Sec met with @ECA_OFFICIAL to strengthen collaboration between policy and finance.
The focus: debt sustainability, infrastructure pipelines, risk-sharing, and reducing Africa’s cost of capital to advance Agenda 2063
We honour the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson, a steadfast voice for justice whose advocacy extended far beyond borders.
Rev. Jackson stood with #Africa in moments of struggle and transformation. Supporting liberation movements, opposing apartheid, and strengthening ties between the continent and its diaspora. He believed deeply in #PanAfrican solidarity and the shared destiny of people of #Africandescent worldwide.
His legacy lives on in the enduring bond between Africa and its diaspora, and in the continued pursuit of dignity, equality, and justice.

Livestock is central to #Ethiopia’s economy, yet feed scarcity remains a major barrier. 🐂🌾
@ILRI @CGIAR_AICCRA, and @TAAT_Africa. are bridging this gap in the Hadiya Zone with "bundled innovations"—combining climate-smart forage with digital advisory tools.

How do you raise animals in a warming world, without warming it further?
That’s the question bringing scientists and partners from eastern Africa, Southeast Asia, and partner universities in Australia together this week at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi. From 19–23 January 2026, researchers at the Africa–Asia Biosciences Challenge Fund workshop are rolling up their sleeves to explore how livestock systems can produce more food, withstand climate shocks, and cut emissions at the same time.
The workshop is part of broader effort to help national scientists tackle shared challenges: unpredictable climates, rising demand for meat and milk, and the urgent need to protect both livelihoods and the planet.
Rather than abstract debate, the workshop is hands-on. The goal is simple but ambitious: help scientists turn cutting-edge bioscience into solutions that farmers can actually use - and that policymakers can trust.
Yesterday's sessions delved into the building blocks of climate-smart livestock: healthier animals, higher productivity, and smarter use of data. Fellows tested real tools, from measuring methane emissions to experimenting with low-emission feeds and management practices they can pilot back home.
Over the week, the learning moves from labs to fields, from data analysis to practical design.
By the end of the workshop, participants leave not just with new skills, but with cross-regional partnerships and a shared mission: to make livestock systems across Africa and Southeast Asia more resilient, more productive, and far better aligned with a climate-constrained future.

🙌 International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Kenya Dairy Board sign new MOU to strengthen Dairy systems in Kenya from 'farm to glass' 🥳
We’re proud to mark a new chapter with the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB). Today’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizes years of collaboration, learning, and sharing—aligning our strengths to work from farm to glass to improve dairy production, processing, and consumer awareness. The Kenyan Dairy Board and ILRI have been working together through the More Milk project.
Appolinaire Djikeng, Director General of ILRI, said ‘Together, this partnership can bridge critical gaps, strengthening both the informal and formal dairy chains, improving milk safety and quality standards, and scaling innovations that enhance productivity and resilience among smallholder farmers'
🔬 + 🏛️ Research meets regulation: This partnership brings together ILRI’s cutting-edge science and KDB’s sector leadership to unlock new opportunities for smallholder farmers, processors, and consumers.
What this MOU enables:
🥛 Value-chain improvement — farm to glass
🧪 Stronger food safety, surveillance & lab support
📣 Better consumer awareness & vendor training
🤝 Evidence-informed standards and policy alignment
The Kenyan Dairy Board and ILRI have been working together through the More Milk project. Dr. Kimutai Maritim, Managing Director, Kenya Dairy Board, highlighted:
“The More Milk 2 project is a great example of collaboration between KDB and ILRI and aligns with our mandate and core functions to regulate, promote, and develop Kenya’s dairy industry. This MOU strengthens our ability to deliver on that promise with innovation, integrity, and impact.”
🌍 Onward to a safer, more inclusive, and more competitive dairy sector.
