A8- I feel like challenges that schools face are having lots of opinions in regards to making a transition in curriculum. Some people don't want change, some do. Addressing it can be done by holding informational meetings that discuss pros and cons. #LearnLAP
A7- Other components that help students grow as readers in comprehension and vocabulary knowledge. Understanding the meaning of words they are reading, and the story being told. #LearnLAP
A6 Continued- Having that choice allows for students to read for pleasure which studies should build so many skills both in and outside of reading. #LearnLAP
A6- I see the most reluctancy when students only have access to books "on their level". Yes, they should be reading books on their level, but they also need to the skills to tell if a book is right for them. This will allow them to choose what they want to read. #LearnLAP
A5- I think the purpose of making a compromise of the two is to allow for students to have a true understanding of letter-sound correspondence, and providing them with an opportunity to repeated see and hear that correspondence. #LearnLAP
A4- When I was in elementary school, I remember learning words to memorize them. Having the standard spelling tests on Fridays was the norm, and just memorizing them rather than studying them was what we did. #LearnLAP
A3- The cross-curricular benefits this type of instruction has is the ability to translate the knowledge learned from this explicit instruction to hearing sounds letters in words make when used across curriculum. #LearnLAP
A2- Some factors that have created interest in examining how we teach reading are online learning, and the need to reteach foundational reading skills. #LearnLAP
