This morning, Eng. Shammah Kiteme, President of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), paid a courtesy visit to my office at Maji House, Nairobi.
During our discussion, we explored strategies to enhance the experience and effectiveness of engineers in Kenya, focusing on goal setting, empowerment, continuous learning, professional development, mentoring young engineers, and fostering a positive work culture.
By implementing these strategies, we aim to create a more engaging, productive, and fulfilling work environment for engineers, guiding the next generation through mentorship, and ultimately leading to improved project outcomes across the country.
The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter. We affirm that Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression, in line with international law.
We reassure that Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles. A detailed statement regarding the circumstances of the attack will be issued later by the Ministry of Defense.
We also emphasize that the continuation of such escalatory military actions will undermine security and stability in the region, dragging it into situations that could have catastrophic consequences for international peace and security.
We call for the immediate cessation of all military actions and for a serious return to the negotiating table and dialogue.
Furthermore, the State of Qatar was one of the first countries to warn against the dangers of Israeli escalation in the region. We have consistently called for diplomatic solutions to be prioritized and have stressed the importance of good-neighborliness and avoiding escalation.
We reaffirm that dialogue is the only way to overcome the current crises and ensure the security of the region and the peace of its people.
The base had been evacuated earlier, following established security and precautionary measures, given the tensions in the region. All necessary steps were taken to ensure the safety of personnel at the base, including Qatari Armed Forces members, friendly forces, and others. We confirm that no injuries or human casualties resulted from the attack.
Today it is Albert; tomorrow, it could be any other blogger or a social media user including the reader.
I stand in solidarity with fellow Kenyans in condemning the heinous and brutal killing of the young man from Homa Bay.
Today, H.E. Ambassador Hiroshi Matsuura of Japan paid a courtesy visit to my office at Maji House, Nairobi. Kenya and Japan have a long history of collaboration in the irrigation and water sectors, focusing on infrastructure development, technology transfer, and capacity building in water resource management and irrigation systems. These efforts aim to enhance water access and boost agricultural productivity in Kenya.
During our meeting, we discussed ongoing and future collaborations. Notably, Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is supporting irrigation development at the Mwea and Ahero Irrigation Schemes. I expressed my deep appreciation for Japan’s longstanding partnership with Kenya in the water, sanitation, and irrigation sectors. I also commended their significant contributions to capacity building and knowledge transfer among our Water Service Providers
Welcome to the Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Conference to be held on 8th May 2025. This is an opportunity to engage the development partners and the public, to resource mobilize and obtain feedback from Kenyans. The event will help streamline our priorities and increase our efficiency in service.
Today I joined my friend and colleague Administration Secretary State Department of Irrigation; Commissioner David Yatich Kipkemei and his family in eulogizing their beloved son Samuel Chemelil Yatich in Baringo County . Samuel was a beloved son, brother and friend to many who all joined the family in laying to rest a shining star whose vibrancy in life left a lasting legacy that will forever live on with everyone he touched positively. I pray to the Lord comfort the family during this difficult time. Rest in peace Samuel.
Today, I conducted a thorough inspection of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project in Kilifi and Tana River Counties. The project comprises several components, each at varying stages of completion.
The project includes the construction of intake works, consisting of an intake well, a pump house, five low-lift pumps (four operational and one standby), and a 1600 mm delivery pipe connected to the canal inlet structure. Additionally, it involves the development of a 753-meter-long inlet canal, a reservoir with a storage capacity of 450,000 cubic meters, a 1,210-meter-long outlet canal designed for a normal flow of 6.94 cubic meters per second and a full flow of 9.32 cubic meters per second, and an off-take sump with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters.
Overall progress stands at 99.7%, with the remaining tasks being expedited to meet the established timelines.
Upon completion, the project will bolster national food security by optimizing productivity on the ranches through targeted investments in crop and livestock production, aligning with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Following the site visit, I convened a consultative meeting with key stakeholders and agencies involved in the project’s implementation. These included government institutions such as the National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), and Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), as well as private entities like Selu, the Korean Solar Power Consortium, contractors CRBC and Irrico, consultants BeAssociates, and other investors.
We agreed that each team would accelerate their respective components to ensure completion as scheduled. Additionally, we committed to conducting regular site visits to monitor progress as we prepare to commence cropping in mid-May.
When I grow old I want to become the Dennis Itumbi Bwana Wamunyoro is discussing.
It seems his pants were running wet whenever he saw Faruk Kibet and Dennis Itumbi... 😂😂😂
