After three years of genocide, we are seeing in the bust-up between Macklemore and Ed Sheeran the first signs of a welcome fissure between political and economic power, on one side, and social and cultural power on the other.

Earlier acts of protests against genocide by musicians – such as by Kneecap and Bob Vylan – have received plenty of publicity, but overwhelmingly negative coverage from an establishment media as steeped in complicity for the genocide as the West’s politicians and billionaire class.

The row embroiling Sheeran, however, has so far moved in a different direction, with the media colouring their reports in grey rather than the usual black and white.

Part of the reason is that, despite claims by stadium owner Robert Kraft and the Israel lobby that Macklemore’s remarks to concert-goers were antisemitic, the media are struggling this time to find anything they can misrepresent as offensive.

And without such a distraction, they cannot deflect their audiences from drawing the obvious inference: that a rabidly pro-Israel billionaire has crushed First Amendment free-speech rights through sheer financial muscle.

The usual lobbyists claiming that Macklemore’s exclamation of “Free Palestine!” is antisemitic and poses a threat to Jews are simply hollowing out their own credibility, further undermining Sheeran’s vacuous “apolitical” stance, and bolstering Macklemore.

After three years of Gaza being levelled, its children bombed, its survivors eking out a living among the rubble, only an idiot or liar fails to see that Palestine urgently needs liberating.

Even the West’s complicit political class are saying, in effect, “Free Palestine!” every time they call for a two-state solution – though, of course, in their case, they do not really have any intention of freeing the Palestinians from Israel’s decades-long illegal occupation.

American oligarchs kicking Macklemore off the Ed Sheeran tour for saying "Free Palestine" is a very in-your-face illustration of why mainstream culture is so vapid and fake.

This is what happens if someone stands on a large and influential platform and dissents against the imperial status quo. Their platform gets taken away.

Mainstream artists in our capitalist dystopia rely on infrastructure that is owned by billionaires, and if the billionaires don't like what the artist is saying, the artist loses access to the infrastructure. In this specific case it was stadiums, but throughout modern history it has also been TV stations, movie studios, radio play, record labels, publications, etc. When the wealthy control all the major platforms, you don't get to stand on a major platform and say things the wealthy don't want you to say.

Macklemore explained this very eloquently in his statement on the matter:

"What I said at MetLife I have been saying on stages around the world for almost three years. So why is it an issue now? Because now I’m sharing a stage with one of the biggest artists in the world, in some of the biggest stadiums in America. At a certain level of exposure, ‘Free Palestine’ becomes too much of a risk. If I kept doing the shows, saying Free Palestine, with Ed implicitly supporting it, the crowd getting loud and showing undeniable support for Palestinian liberation, what artist might speak out next? The stage becomes resistance. Maybe that’s why this time it became so important to silence me."

If you've been wondering why more artists haven't been speaking out about Gaza, this is why. They all know they'll lose their lucrative platforms if they say anything that offends the sensibilities of the plutocrats they depend on for mainstream success. If they want to remain millionaires, they need to get along with the billionaires.

So they don't say anything that offends the powerful. They don't say anything critical of capitalism. They don't say anything critical of Zionism. They don't say anything critical of the western empire. They stick to churning out toothless tunes about romance and relationships, writing shallow lyrics about dancing and partying with your friends, making dopey Hollywood action flicks, and creating empty-headed sitcoms about friends getting up to hilarious antics in an imaginary universe where capitalism is working fine for everybody.

If you want to be a mainstream artist in this dystopia, your vehicles for creative expression are (A) propaganda or (B) empty distraction. That's it. Nothing that edifies or helps improve the world is ever allowed past the keeper. The media-owning class wants us all to be a bunch of mindless, distracted, compliant consumers who march along to the imperial drum, so that's the only type of "art" you get to make if you want to be rich and famous.

In that sense the mainstream artists of our day are actually just mercenaries for the western empire. Ed Sheeran kicked Macklemore off the tour as soon as the Zionist billionaire Robert Kraft told him to, and will replace him with an opening act who promises never to say "Free Palestine" on stage. Sheeran is essentially just a rich, soft-handed thug responsible for keeping any dissident ideas from reaching the ears of his audience, which is why he's been allowed to become as famous as he has. If it were Sheeran saying "Free Palestine", he'd be the one getting banned from stadiums.

Mainstream culture is designed to keep us docile, ignorant and submissive while thinking we are free. This is the dystopia we were warned about generations ago by fiction writers describing the dark future they saw approaching. This is it. We are living in it.

P!nk’s “apology” is basically PR sleight of hand.

Instead of owning what she actually amplified, she’s changing the subject to something nobody was arguing against, Jewish people deserve to feel safe.

Of course they do. That’s not the fucking point.

The point is that she amplified rhetoric framing Macklemore’s advocacy for Palestinians as “anti-Israel,” got dragged for it, and then came back with a much safer argument she can defend without admitting she fucked up.

She’s not taking responsibility. She’s sidestepping it while trying to control the story about why everyone was mad in the first place.

Free Palastine does not equal “Jews deserve to suffer” and pretending that’s the case is the kind of weaponized ignorance that allows genocides to go unchecked.

A major bombshell has dropped in Israel ahead of the election

Haaretz has dropped a bombshell ahead of the election.

The United Arab Emirates reportedly called Netanyahu before October 7 and told him that Hamas was preparing an attack.

According to Haaretz’s allegations, United Arab Emirates President bin Zayed called Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu before October 7.

A week and a half before October 7, 2023, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from Abu Dhabi and spoke with him for 45 minutes.

During that conversation, bin Zayed warned that Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s leader in Gaza, was planning a major operation against Israel. He said they had clear information and that Yahya Sinwar was preparing a “major move.” He even used the words, “Be prepared for the mother of all surprises, for something terrible.”

Bin Zayed advised Netanyahu to take the situation seriously.

However, despite his surprise, the prime minister responded relatively calmly. Netanyahu said that, in his assessment, Hamas would operate in the West Bank, and reassured bin Zayed that Israel was ready for any scenario.

The Israeli prime minister said they were prepared for every possible scenario.

Haaretz claims to have an audio recording of the conversation, and even says that three foreign figures who witnessed the events have confirmed what happened. Netanyahu’s camp, however, categorically denies it.

As you may recall, it had also emerged that Egypt had warned Israel on October 1 to “be prepared for something out of the ordinary.”

The debate in Israel now centers on this:

A situation in which a prime minister who had been alerted to a major threat appears to have tucked the warnings away in his drawer.

But what will really corner Netanyahu ahead of the election is the fact that the Israeli prime minister did not mention this conversation to anyone.

Why is there no emergency mobilization? Why are there no large-scale reinforcements at the border? Why is there no general alert? Why would security officials not have been informed?
