Sure is telling to see scientists up in arms about a few week delay in grant reviews but utterly silent about the cancelling of the diversity initiatives they’ve been trumpeting for a decade.
Republicans are acting EXACTLY as expected. Number 1 priority: raise the debt limit so they can pass fiscally irresponsible tax cuts that put us further in the hole.
There is nothing novel about this. President Musk is just following the play book.
@chatabix1 just catching up on patreon. The bodybuilding ep was wonderful. The magic Egyptian I nearly peed my pants. I could hear Joe giggling after you said it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What the hell is going on in the US Senate? Hours after Donald Trump wins the most conclusive mandate in 40 years, Mitch McConnell engineers a coup against his agenda by calling early leadership elections in the senate. Two of the three candidates hate Trump and what he ran on. One of them, John Cornyn, is an angry liberal whose politics are indistinguishable from Liz Cheney’s. The election is Wednesday, it’s by secret ballot, and it will determine whether or not the new administration succeeds. Rick Scott of Florida is the only candidate who agrees with Donald Trump. Call your senator and demand a public endorsement of Rick Scott. Don’t let McConnell get away with it again.

@speakerjohnson's HOUSE REPUBLICAN CONFERENCE could end up with a majority of between 218 to 220, leaving them in the same predicament they had for the last two years. Narrow margins -- but the stakes are way higher
- TAX BILL
- RULES PACKAGE
- Speaker vote to give Johnson gavel
- procedural motions
- everything
on MIKE JOHNSON'S barely there majority -- if he gets it

@HCCvPDAC Is there any reason to think they wouldn't do the same again? They won't have a strong majority in the house and will struggle to get things going without Dem help there.
Lot of scaremongering on here about the NIH. The reality is that NIH funding was better under Trump than Biden. The key point here is that the GOP doesn't actually care about defects, debt ceilings etc when they have power. They will spend and tax cut like crazy. Just wait.
@JohnStreicher1 Even if he gives him the job (big IF!!), it's highly unlikely rank and file GOP are going to go along with his bat shit ideas. The GOP will certainly need Dems in the house to get around their ultra right wing crazies who will block everything.
We've seen this happen over and over. It's not rocket science. Of course, it's always possible they go "full Gilead" but that's not where I'm putting my money.
And then when they lose again - and they will - they will cry about deficits and debt ceilings etc and block the Dems agenda. The soft Dems will try to work with them on more sequestration type deals to get budgets passed, and discretionary spending will decline.
All this stuff about "Dems will never win again unless they do X" is bullshit. Give the GOP control, watch them fuck it up for 4 years and get booted out. This country just goes from right to left to right to left.
