작년 6월 취임 직후 G7 정상회의에 참석해 민주주의를 회복한 대한민국의 모습을 전 세계에 알렸던 것이 엊그제 같은데, 어느덧 1년이 흘렀습니다. 오늘 저는 다시 2026 G7 정상회의가 열리는 프랑스 에비앙으로 향합니다.

2년 연속 회의에 초청받은 것은 대한민국에 대한 국제사회의 신뢰와 기대를 보여주는 매우 뜻깊은 일입니다. 국제 연대와 모두를 위한 성장, AI와 미래 기술의 발전 방향 등 시대의 핵심 의제를 두고 G7 회원국을 비롯한 초청국 정상들과 함께 심도 있는 논의를 나눌 예정입니다.

위대한 대한국민 여러분께서 만들어주신 대한민국의 힘을 바탕으로 우리의 국익을 굳건히 지키고, 세계 평화와 번영에 기여하는 책임 있는 역할을 다하겠습니다.

대한민국은 더 이상 변화를 따라가는 나라가 아닌, 변화를 만들고, 미래를 이끌어가는 나라입니다. 더욱 단단해진 우리의 저력과 자신감을 세계 무대에 당당히 전하고 돌아오겠습니다.

It feels like only yesterday that, shortly after taking office last June, I attended the G7 Summit and shared with the world the image of a Republic of Korea that had restored its democracy. A year has already passed, and today I am once again heading to Évian, France, where the G7 Summit 2026 will be held.

Being invited to the G7 Summit for the second consecutive year is a deeply meaningful testament to the trust and expectations that the international community places in the Republic of Korea. I will engage in in-depth discussions with the leaders of the G7 members and invited countries on the defining issues of our time, including international partnerships and solidarity, more balanced economic growth, and the future of AI and emerging technologies.

Building on the strength of the Republic of Korea made possible by our great people, I will firmly safeguard our national interests and faithfully fulfill our responsible role in contributing to global peace and prosperity.

The Republic of Korea is no longer a country that simply follows change, but one that creates change and leads the future. I will proudly convey to the world our stronger resilience and confidence, and return home.

존경하는 유흥식 추기경님, 그리고 한국인 성직자 여러분과 함께할 수 있어 더욱 뜻깊고 감사한 마음입니다. 이어 레오 14세 교황님을 단독으로 뵙고, 파롤린 국무원장님과도 만날 예정입니다.

교황님께서는 한 청년이 내민 포켓몬 카드에도 기꺼이 사인을 해주실 만큼 따뜻하고 격의 없는 분입니다. 이처럼 작은 친절과 다정함이 사람과 사람 사이의 거리를 좁히고, 나아가 세상을 더욱 평화롭게 만든다고 믿습니다.

“평화가 여러분 모두와 함께”
즉위 후 교황님께서 세상에 처음으로 건네신 인사를 떠올리며, 오늘 이곳 로마에서 다시 한번 진정한 평화의 의미를 되새깁니다. Pax vobis!

Sarà per me motivo di particolare significato e profonda gratitudine poter condividere questo momento con Sua Eminenza il Cardinale You Heung-sik e i membri del clero coreano presenti.

A seguire, avrò l’onore di incontrare in udienza privata Sua Santità Papa Leone XIV, e successivamente incontrerò anche Sua Eminenza il Cardinale Pietro Parolin, Segretario di Stato della Santa Sede.

Il Santo Padre è una persona dall’animo generoso, che, senza formalismi, accoglie con benevolenza anche il gesto di firmare una carta Pokémon che un giovane gli porge. Credo che tali piccoli atti di gentilezza e affetto avvicinino le persone tra loro e contribuiscano, inoltre, a rendere il mondo più pacifico.

«La pace sia con tutti voi».
Ripensando al primo saluto che il Santo Padre ha rivolto al mondo dopo la sua elezione, mi preparo a rinnovare oggi, qui a Roma, una riflessione profonda sul significato autentico della pace.
