Nothing has changed for us! This notice is likely just to cover their behinds from a legal perspective and/or as assurance for shareholders. The backlash needs to continue. Stronger than ever!

To all you digital clowns who believe Sony can disable my disc drive at their discretion:

Legally, removing an advertised core feature from a purchased product would constitute a breach of contract, false advertising, and a violation of express warranty obligations. Intentionally disabling the disc drive through a software update would likely result in immediate class-action litigation worldwide.

Beast of Reincarnation is out of stock in certain stores. Not the first physical game in recent months that can't meet demand. We saw this for Capcom titles as well. Shows another reason why sales numbers don't tell the full picture when it comes to consumer preference.

This sounds bad but its not. If you lend the disc to a friend and they play it on an internet capable device, you lose your digital license. BUT if they give the disc BACK to you, you can play it again.

You know..... like how discs work.

Ending physical games will negatively impact digital games and game development with it🚀

✅No physical means no 2nd hand market
✅Therefore most won’t buy code in a box
✅Most will buy only from PlayStation Store
✅This gives them more power over pricing

What does this means for gaming?

✅Second hand market is an entry point for many into the ecosystem. They start with used games and then get locked into the console.

✅PS5 already has a big console base. But with PS6, especially with rumors of it costing ~$1000, many will feel deterred from buying a whole new system where they have to buy more expensive games without any second hand alternatives.

✅This can very much lead to less revenue per game and less games in general

Once again, physical games aren’t just about discs, it’s about ownership, pricing, trading, secondhand and collectors.

If Sony does not want to make discs, then perhaps a limited/on-demand physical version should be made and sold directly to customers by a 3rd party company, like Criterion is to movies, and many other examples.

I recommend you buy one now while it's $499.

If Sony made massive changes to the PlayStation Store/digital ecosystem would that change your opinion going into next-gen?

I'm talking about an overhaul. New refund policies, better/more frequent sales, gifting, the ability to trade or sell digital games, family share plan etc

@ivvanex Sony’s CFO made it clear: they don't care about ownership. I’ve completely removed myself and canceled all subs. Moving over to PC and supporting pro-physical companies like #SEGA. I hope this company crashes and burns for betraying gamers. Fuck Sony. Hold the line!

Do they have a good refund policy like Steam? NO! ❌

Do they have a good track record of preserving digital media? NO! ❌

Do they have reliable online network security? NO! ❌

Do they allow gifting and trading of Digital games? NO! ❌

Do they offer DRM-Free games like GOG? NO! ❌

Do they have a disc to digital feature? NO! ❌

Do they allow for digital games to be backed up / archived externally by the user without restriction / encryption? NO! ❌

Do they plan to make their game prices more affordable in 2028? NO! ❌

Do they do a good job of listening to feedback, showing respect for their supporters and communicating with their fans / customers? NO! ❌

Do they have any interest in keeping consoles around indefinitely? NO! ❌

Their whole digital only pitch consists of just "We have games, buy them from our store" and nothing else vs other online digital stores. They've severely miscalculated! Why should anyone with common sense be optimistic about their digital only plans in 2028.
