i wonder why nobody is getting the point at @RecordingAcad HQ. So i’ll explain it since the CEO just came in here and word vomited:

It’s not that BTS cannot submit for all the categories that they are legible for. But it’s the standard that you have rarely applied for e.g. Europeans or English speaking artists. Funneling an artist with dominant, chart-topping global numbers into a niche category, solely because of their language and geographic origin, ignores the reality that they are functioning as standard pop artists on the global stage. You aren’t celebrating Asian music with your new category, you are boxing artists away like you have done with Latin artists, Black artists into R&B & Rap. It’s you shifting categories the minute POC sweeps it the year next. BTS just happened to not agree with your decision. And as the outliers of Asian pop music, they have stepped back from it.

Reducing diverse musical expressions to the blanket term “Asian pop” replaces genuine artistic identity with a limiting geographic label. In reality, many contemporary Asian artists actively shape and redefine global landscapes across pop, hip-hop, R&B, rock, and electronic music, mirroring the stylistic fluidity found anywhere else in the world. Funneling this vast sonic spectrum into a regional category builds artificial barriers that prioritize an artist's place of origin over the actual substance of their sound.

BTS fought to pioneer a borderless industry where future generations of Asian artists are recognized as standard-setting creators rather than regional novelties. It’s your decision was a jab towards their legacy. That’s why, they have opted out of this. BTS & their culture is not a novelty, but rather an expression to universal art. And you have disgustingly tried to box it.

At the beginning of the tour when you all attacked BTS for not doing full choreography, none of you understood the point at all. We weren’t defending them just because we blindly support everything they do.

We defended them because choreography is exhausting as hell. Every single move, every technique, every second has to be timed, practiced, calculated, repeated until it drains them completely. And for what? So you can sit there entertained by the performance while they’re treated like machines built to satisfy you, running from one choreography to the next until they’re completely burned out?

This tour proved everything. They started genuinely enjoying the stage again. They started expressing themselves freely, acting like actual human beings instead of overworked robots trying to meet impossible expectations.

Now they’re laughing on stage, messing around, randomly throwing in little moves they still remember from old songs, interacting with ARMY, joking with each other..and THAT is BTS. THAT is what the connection between them and ARMY is supposed to feel like.

You know what was happening behind the scenes before? Endless exhaustion from doing multiple intense choreographies every single concert, over and over again through entire tours. So maybe start trusting their choices for once.

I hope they stay this happy and comfortable. If they feel like dancing, then dance. If not, then don’t. Their presence, their smiles, their energy, and the way they interact with us is already more than enough.

먼저, 광화문 광장을 저희의 복귀 무대로 품어주시고, 수많은 인파 속에서도 큰 사고 없이 안전한 공연이 될 수 있도록 힘써주신 경찰, 소방, 정부 및 지자체 관계자 여러분께 고개 숙여 감사드립니다.
