There are so many things I want to say about agriculture but people will drag me 🥺

Let me say this one - maybe people will pity my mental health.

Did you know that one of the reasons why maize is so expensive & a challenge is bcs we humans in Nigeria are competing with animal feed?

Ok let me break it down - the majority of the maize we produce is the "Dent Corn" and dent corn is designed for animal feed not for human consumption (it's safe if you eat it but it has too much starch & it's not sweet).

The dent corn is grown for animal feed production that's why 60% of maize grown in Nigeria are consumed by the poultry sector. It's food for livestock not human.

But our longer throat made us chuck eye for animal feed we will roast, process to Akamu/swallow etc...thereby putting pressure on livestock feed and causing price spike.

Sweet corn is the maize that is designed for human being. But how do I tell you roasted corn lovers to leave animal food and allow our livestock sector grow without hurting your feelings?

Have you noticed why you'll eat some roasted or boiled corn and your jaw/Paari/ head go dey pain you?

That's bcs you're eating animal feed 😢😣.

Next time you want to buy corn ask for sweet corn not dent corn.
