Got a rare chance to visit the border between North (l) and South Korea at the Joint Security Area in #Panmunjom, in the Korean #DMZ. DPRK and UN/US officers usually stare each other down across this concrete border slab, but since Covid the North Koreans prefer to stay inside.
Great event tonight with Book Prize winner Shehan Karunatilaka at #hklitfest. Inspiring, and very funny, to hear about his writing process, grappling with newfound fame, and bringing the troubled recent history of Sri Lanka into a gripping narrative. #sevenmoonsofmaalialmeida
Curious where the #writingcommunity will be going...
Setting up on Mastodon - https://t.co/q03kUSWECB - for now, seems the most promising of the alternative networks. Hope I'll see a few of you over there
@vanpaugam @PhlashDark If you had been paid 100 dollars in bitcoin a week ago, it would be worth 87 dollars today.
Which means your rent has just gone up by 15% in one week
@GabeShepperd @Teddy_Goold@bobbiharlow Agreed, that adds a problematic layer. Luckily New Yorkers don't much care what their city looks like on screen, otherwise we’d have to be outraged at the cheesily dressed up ‘New York’ sets of Toronto, Vancouver, and LA all the time
@GabeShepperd @Teddy_Goold@bobbiharlow Just two months ago, a big streaming series set up a gaudy looking hot dog cart in Riverside Drive for a week, in a neighborhood where no hot dog cart has ever stood
@GabeShepperd @Teddy_Goold@bobbiharlow Erm, sorry, yes - done plenty of location scouting and production work in NYC for visiting film crews, and everybody always wants to shoot in that mythical graffiti-strewn alley in the Village that looks 'so New York' but doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a universal thing, I’m afraid.
