Government has confirmed that H.E. @KagutaMuseveni will attend the coronation of His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, the 13th Omukama of Tooro, scheduled for Tuesday, 29 September 2026 at Karuziika Palace, Fort Portal City.

The confirmation was made by the Minister of State for Gender and Culture Affairs, Hon. Mary Kuteesa, during a joint press conference with the Omusuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi Akiiki, Head of the Babiito Royal Clan.

The Minister said Tooro Kingdom has formally communicated to Government the outcome of the succession process, following the passing of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

She described the coronation as an important cultural occasion that represents the continuity of the Obukama Bwa Tooro and called upon all stakeholders to uphold peace, unity, dignity and respect as the Kingdom prepares for the ceremony.

*Hon. Mbabazi has pledged continued advocacy for increment of the SAGE Cash and SEGOP Coverage. She was speaking earlier today, to older persons council leaders, and Councillors, Subcounty Chiefs from the 13 subcounties, Parish Chiefs and Community Development Officers from 43 parishes, as well as members of the District Executive Officers of Kiryandongo district.

She is winding up the week-long field Monitoring tour of Government Programmes benefiting older persons in Bunyoro region, including SAGE, Special Enterprise Grant for Older Persons (SEGOP) and PDM.

Today, at the @Mglsd_UG offices, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Lt. Gen. @Tumukunde_ and Commissioner for Employment Services, @LEgulu, are engaging representatives from recruitment agencies and other stakeholders on National External Labour Mobility Reform and Implementation.

The engagement is focused on consolidating work already undertaken, addressing identified gaps and establishing a common national framework for the recruitment, preparation, deployment, protection and return of Ugandan migrant workers.

Hon. @acanjoyceokeny, has also pledged to raise the challenges facing Ocoko Rehabilitation Centre in Arua before Cabinet and Parliament.
The Minister highlighted concerns over understaffing, inadequate funding and land encroachment, promising to push for improved staffing, funding and protection of rehabilitation centres.

Minister of State for Disability Affairs, Hon. @acanjoyceokeny, has commended Persons with Disabilities in West Nile for effectively utilizing the PDM and Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities to improve livelihoods.

During her assessment tour, she visited groups engaged in tailoring, crafts, welding and goat farming, and urged PWDs to embrace government programmes, fight poverty and build self-reliance.

During the monitoring of the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) in Northern Uganda, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Dr. @MercyLakiskis, engaged youth beneficiaries on making the most of Government’s investment in their livelihoods.

As a revolving fund, YLP can only continue to benefit more young people when beneficiaries use the funds responsibly and fulfil their obligations.

As part of an ongoing monitoring exercise in Northern Uganda, Hon. Dr. @MercyLakiskis, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, led a joint team from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, under the Joint Programme for UWEP and YLP, alongside Alebtong District officials and National Youth Council representatives, to monitor Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) beneficiary groups in Alebtong District.

The team engaged beneficiaries to assess the progress and sustainability of supported enterprises, understand implementation experiences and identify challenges requiring follow-up to strengthen the impact of Government’s youth empowerment interventions.

Older persons between 65-80 years asked Hon. Jacqueline Mbabazi to expedite their enrolment into the SAGE Programme, following Cabinet decision to lower the age to 65yrs. They also want the value of the SAGE Grant to be increased.

Older persons have requested Minister Mbabazi to explore ways of putting in place a health insurance scheme for the older citizens, to enable them to access good health care in their communities. The social grants should also be increased, they asked.
