A young Palestinian man stood his ground against armed illegal Israeli settlers during an incursion into the Ain al-Zarqa area of Beitillu village, west of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. Refusing to back down despite direct threats of gunfire, the unarmed man confronted a settler holding a weapon and insisted that they leave the area.

US Democratic Representative Ro Khanna said he was detained this week by Israeli settlers carrying US-made rifles during a visit to the occupied West Bank, describing the incident as a firsthand view of the impact of Israeli occupation as he considers a potential 2028 presidential campaign.

Speaking to Reuters on Thursday from a Palestinian village, Khanna said his group’s vehicle was surrounded the previous day by settlers armed with M4 rifles while visiting an area in the southern West Bank where residents have reported repeated settler attacks.

"We were at a village that Israeli settlers had destroyed, they had destroyed the school, they had destroyed that village, and we were just looking at it," said Khanna, a progressive California Democrat serving in the US House of Representatives.

"And these hoodlums come in with machine guns – M4, an American-made machine gun – and they detain us. They block off the road. And then they call the IDF and the IDF is on their side, not on the side of the Americans," Khanna said, referring to the Israeli army.

Khanna aide Cameron Kasky, who was part of the group, said they were held for more than an hour and contacted the US Embassy in Jerusalem seeking assistance. Kasky said a group of officers who appeared to be police later intervened, allowing the group to leave.
